Sarah Palin KNOWS God's Plan! Pray for a Gas Pipeline!

Recommended Posts

>Wasn't "THE" money general funding?

It was earmarked federal funding.

The reason this has become such a big deal is that she claims to be against earmarks and government waste, but championed earmark spending during her time in Alaska. She went so far as to hire a Washington lobbyist firm while she was mayor of Wasilla to secure millions in federal government funds. There are direct quotes from her expressing her pride in how much she was able to bilk the US government for.

Some other tidbits:

Alaska (according to Palin) it has the largest amount of natural resources in the country as well. Indeed, it gets so much money from the sale of those resources that it mails all its residents checks every year. It also gets more money in earmarks per capita than any other state in the US - $506 vs. a national average of $50. While she was mayor of Wasilla she managed to get $1000 per capita of earmarks from Washington, all of which (of course) came from taxpayers in other states.

You know Bill there are times I get why the other side fights their fight. Yet there are times I just don’t get it.

This is one of them.

Republican is supposedly small government. That has not been the case the past 8 years and not the case for Ms. Palin. She tripled her town budget.

They talk about patriotism, Correct me if I am wrong but is her husband not one who has been in favor of secession. Was she not quoted as welcoming the party for secession and saying keep up the good work? The same group who says they hate the US government?
I mean if we are going to give Obama Preacher crap for criticizing the US should we not at least ask her Husband what his plans were? Oh yea she will not answer any questions. Fear from exposing the truth is not a good sign.

Family values- Until we saw Ms. Plain 17 year old daughter have a baby out of wedlock I don’t think the republican’s thought it was so cute.

Again I wonder what would have been said if Obama had a 17 year pregnant daughter?

I just don’t get it. She does not seem to fit the republican platform (Other then the few physco religious), I know that platform has been convoluted for a long time now. Why not try to get it right instead of blindly fighting for someone who does not even represent the parties main selling point, Small government.

I can honestly say I had always thought John Mccain would be a good choice, now I can’t even take the party seriously. I am not a democrat don’t even agree with Obama that much, but I have lost all respect for the republican party.

>Republican is supposedly small government. That has not been the case

Perhaps valid, but I would point out that the republican party has not been "small government" for a decade or so now. She may well play to the new big-government republicans.

>They talk about patriotism, Correct me if I am wrong but is her husband not one
>who has been in favor of secession.

Actually, she's been a supporter of the secessionist Alaska Independence Party for years. Their slogan is Alaska First - Alaska Always, and Joe Vogler, the AIP's founder, stated their position succinctly:

"The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government. . .And I won't be buried under their damn flag."

She went to their convention in 2000, and addressed their conventions in 2006 and 2008.

After her nomination she denied any involvement with the radical group. But Dexter Clark, vice-chairman of the AIP, had this to say about the issue:

“She was an AIP member before she got the job as a mayor of a small town. That was a non-partisan job. But to get along, to go along she eventually joined the Republican Party.”

Now, being a member of such a party does not mean that you're for secession; it may be that she was just 'playing politics' and hoping to attract the more radial Alaskans during her campaigns.

>Until we saw Ms. Plain 17 year old daughter have a baby out of wedlock
>I don’t think the republican’s thought it was so cute.

I think that happens to a great many families no matter what their political backgrounds. Kids screw up, no matter who their parents are.

>Why not try to get it right instead of blindly fighting for someone who
>does not even represent the parties main selling point, Small government.

In the 1940's, the republican and democratic parties basically traded platforms. That may be happening again. When libertarians endorse a democratic president to get away from the big-government republicans, change is in the air.

Cool. Not even two posts!

The preacher in question said that Israel was receiving divine judgment for not being of the true faith, and that terrorist attacks by the Palestinians were part of that judgment. Spin that however you like; doesn't change what he said.

And as Quade pointed out, what both he and Wright said doesn't matter much.

One nice thing about the latest Palin debacle is that we may just see some GOPers admitting that what a preacher says on stage really doesn't matter all that much, even if that candidate was in the audience.

Uhhh, what "debacle" is that?

A preacher at her church (while she was in the audience) saying that Israel was receiving divine judgment for not being of the true faith, and that terrorist attacks by the Palestinians were part of that judgment.

So islamic terrorism isn't really a problem, it's just God's judgment against the Jews.

So for your Rev Wright is not a problem for Obama but this is a 'debacle" for Palin?

That is interesting.

Now, I have not yet seen this thing you call a "debacle" but, it seems like nothing and, if it is coming in the same light as book banning, troopergate and the rest, well, just more shit threw that did not stick

Nope. It should not be a problem for either one. What their preacher says is what their preacher says, not what they say. Perhaps this latest Palin episode will teach GOPers that.

Exactly so why are their still people who claim that they do and that’s why they are voting for them? I just don’t get it. It has been going on long enough for there to be a clear history of whom spends more.

This is the greatest magic trick ever and still works. Lets claim we do something and consistently do the opposite. I just can’t believe people have not caught on yet.

I don’t get how Reverend Wright gets played for two weeks straight yet this doesn’t even get mentioned.:S

I agree that it is not a republican issue but I just think I should say I just know that if the shoe was on the other foot the Election would be over for Obama.

The Repub. now act like teen pregnancy is cute. I just don’t understand how they can even take them selves seriously anymore.

Agreed - which is why I have been sticking to actual statements by the candidates and news reports from relatively unbiased sources. Archived editions of Alaskan newspapers are a good source, for example. No chance to get in there and twist any facts.

So now do you admit you are wrong, or just keep on fighting the none factual fight?

Sorry to pick on you but there is a pattern. People fight and fight to say what is being said is wrong. Then you show proof of a valid source that no you are right and they are wrong. You would think a rational person would admit their mistake and maybe even change their mind considering it was based on wrong information. Off course that’s what a rational person would do. What we have seen is a twist and back to the same blind faith tactics.

>Sen. McCain did not vote on the Coburn Amendment . . .

Indeed, he condemned that bridge roundly, and blamed the people who supported it for last year's bridge disaster in Minneapolis. McCain last year:

"Maybe, maybe the 200,000 people who cross that bridge every day would have been safer than spending 233 million of your tax dollars on a bridge in Alaska on an island with 50 people on it. What do you think we could have done with that 233 million that we spent to go to the bridge to nowhere?"

Something tells me he will be forgetting about that statement as fast as he can.

Darius, if you think I sit around waiting to answer posts, you've got one HELL of a misconception (hint; I don't). Here's a fact for you: this was not the link presented by Quade - the post to which I was responding. Yet another fact for you: I don't know if this is even Governor Palin's church or not. Do you? When you prove me wrong, I'll admit it. And why didn't YOU answer my questions? There only a few of them - some of them yes or no at that.

Bill et al, if you'd read the sermon you posted, you'd see it was given by a guest speaker placed on the calendar three years in advance. Hint: guest speaker and not the resident pastor is the key here. I can compare and contrast the difference if you like, but hope it's unnecessary. I don't agree with much of what the man said, truth be told, but neither do I take this as an endorsement of Governor Palin to such beliefs as I don't even know this is her church. Is it the only one in Wasilla? I don't know and doubt you do either.

Yep - and she chose to attend that one.

Why, Vinnie, I am surprised! Are you saying that being in a church where radical sermons are delivered does not necessarily mean that the congregation endorses those views?

If so, I agree, and am glad you are finally coming around.

> Is it the only one in Wasilla?

No, it's not. There were at least two last time I was there. Probably more now.

I ask eight questions and get zero answers. Many of them yes or no.

Do you not like my questions? Or is it what the answers infer about your argument that you don't like? Been busy moving. Missed the post. I'll go back and look. Look. I'll be 51 yrs. old in a couple weeks. Pretty much set in my ways. I've seen a lot. Everybody here is pretty much set in their ways regardless of age. I don't don't argue or debate much cause it's a waste of time me thinks.

Oh, hell, tell you what; We'll give you the whole lot in exchange for Eddie Izzard.[:/]

I would vote for Eddie Izzard.. or hell why not Russel Brand? At least we'd have some intersting hairdo's in the White House.

This election is really depressing. I'm more excited about the USPA election this year.

Ahhh...I DO have to explain the difference between guest speaker and resident pastor! Tsk tsk tsk.

But first...you know Governor Palin was in attendance...how, exactly? Curious. It's not in anything you've posted thus far. Perhaps it's from CNN...we see how we'll they're doing with their unbiased[sic] coverage of her.

I've never said that being in a church where radical sermons are delivered by guest speakers is a bad thing. I've listened to many guest speakers with whom I disagree in several venues. I maintain forever that continual attendance of a church where frequent radical and despicable statements are made by a racist IS indicative of the character of those regularly attended. Who, was that again? For years? Senator Obama! See? I answered my OWN question. I'm so fucking sexy. I should answer my own questions more often...it would save me the disappointment when others refuse to answer, regardless of how simple they are.
