So true;)

I like how Obama wants to raise my taxes just because of what I make.:S I don't use any of the government services anymore that the average person even though I pay more in taxes, so why should I pay more?

Congratulations on making so much.

However, I believe paying as we go, as opposed to borrowing from China to cover our debts, is the real reason for having taxes.

Couldn't agree more. The problem is that you want the successful to pay the bulk. Why not have everyone pay an equal percentage? Wouldn't that be the most fair?

Obviously that wouldn't work because all of the gimme-gimme projects wouldn't be properly funded.

Answer. Stop the gimme-gimme projects. Tax everyone equally. Hence, the more successful you are, the more you make. As opposed to your plan of the more successful you are, the more you cough up for everyone else.

Right, and then put you in a place of need and you squeel like a schoolgirl; that's the purpose of welfare. My dad is a great example of that, diehard Repugnican all his life, then get old and whine for social svs..... most neo-cons do.

Not to mention matching the world in defense spending and then deciding that's not enough, so spending another 150B/yr in Iraq.

I know, let's make the poor pay the bulk; they have all that money laying around...... think b4 u write ;)

Read before you respond. Never, anywhere, did I say make anyone pay the bulk. I said all should pay equally. I know that concept is beyond comprehension, but try just for a second.

An equal percentage would still constitute the well-off paying more. It's still more fair. I await a valid argument for the "rich" paying a higher percentage.

Take a gander at this and add it to your scary videos. Then you begin to understand "why."

You said I want the successful to pay the bulk: "The problem is that you want the successful to pay the bulk." Short memory?

How can all pay equally when the poor have little to nothing? Can you comprehend that little math equation?

Do they? According to Warren Buffet his secretary pays a higher pecentage, and he claims he never uses tax accountants to shield his income.

Quick, without looking it up, how much of the tax revenue do the bottom 50% of wage earners provide?
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh

Try to put together a reasonable argument. This doesn't even make sense.

>I said all should pay equally.

No, you didn't. You want a flat percentage. That's different than everyone paying equally.

If everyone paid equally, everyone would owe about $45,000 a year to the government. That's as fair as it gets. It would also be mind-numbingly stupid to try that taxation scheme.

So next we go to a scheme where the rich pay more. That works because the rich can AFFORD to pay more. (Even you agree with this once you think about it.)

The remaining quibbles are about the details of the curve. I'd be all for a flat percentage tax with a poverty offset - provided it covered our expenses. It's still progressive, of course.

> I await a valid argument for the "rich" paying a higher percentage.

The arguments are:

1) They can afford to pay more without affecting their quality of life.

2) In terms of economic stimulus, giving tax breaks to someone at the lower end of the income scale helps more than giving tax breaks to someone at the higher end of the income scale.

The proletariat will use its political supremacy to wrest, by degree, all capital from the bourgeoisie, to centralize all instruments of production in the hands of the state, i.e., of the proletariat organized as the ruling class; and to increase the total productive forces as rapidly as possible.

Of course, in the beginning, this cannot be effected except by means of despotic inroads on the rights of property, and on the conditions of bourgeois production; by means of measures, therefore, which appear economically insufficient and untenable, but which, in the course of the movement, outstrip themselves, necessitate further inroads upon the old social order, and are unavoidable as a means of entirely revolutionizing the mode of production.

These measures will, of course, be different in different countries.

Nevertheless, in most advanced countries, the following will be pretty generally applicable.

1. Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes.

2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.

3. Abolition of all rights of inheritance.

4. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels.

5. Centralization of credit in the banks of the state, by means of a national bank with state capital and an exclusive monopoly.

6. Centralization of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the state.

7. Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the state; the bringing into cultivation of waste lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan.

8. Equal obligation of all to work. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture.

9. Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of all the distinction between town and country by a more equable distribution of the populace over the country.

10. Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children's factory labor in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production, etc.

That's not what Obama claims he's going to do. Tax cuts for 95% and hikes for the wealthy. That's not an equal percentage with poverty offset. What is your cut off for the poverty line?

And punishes them for being successful. They deserve to have whatever quality of life they want without funding the country's budget. It also goes against what you said about a flat percentage with a poverty offset.

In terms of economic stimulus, it's better to give tax breaks to those with money because they spend it. They expand businessses and create jobs.
