Defense spending and the Wall Street bailout are both huge Socialist programs. Bush 43's discretionary non-defense spending increases eclipsed Carter and Clinton's. Deny it all you want, but the two on the GOP ticket are the only ones that have actually demonstrated that they BOTH will do what is right, not simply follow the party line. BO and JB have NEVER went against the party line. You want status quo, put them in office. You want REAL change, get maverick McCain in."I'm not lost. billvon 2,990 #62 October 2, 2008 > but the two on the GOP ticket are the only ones that have actually >demonstrated that they BOTH will do what is right . . . So let me get this straight. Getting hundreds of millions in earmarks to build a Bridge to Nowhere - and then not giving the money back when Congress cancels the project - is the right thing to do? Voting for a 850 billion dollar corporate bailout bill is the right thing to do? Choosing one of the architects of the economic collapse as your senior economic adviser is the right thing to do? Claiming to "suspend your campaign" to solve a big problem - and then neither suspending it nor solving the problem - is the right thing to do? There's no doubt a lot of people have made a lot of mistakes lately, and neither Obama nor McCain have consistently done "what is right."

There's no doubt a lot of people have made a lot of mistakes lately, and neither Obama nor McCain have consistently done "what is right." I agree that neither have consistently done "what is right". Obama says, "Vote for me for change." The only change he will really bring is his color and his inexperience. As far as the bridge, do you really think there is any political leader that would give the money back? She did nothing to get the 'pork' for AK. I noticed that all three of the senators in this race voted for the bailout."I'm not lost. I don't know where I'm going, but there's no sense in being late." billvon 2,990 #65 October 2, 2008 > Obama says, "Vote for me for change." The only change he will really bring >is his color and his inexperience. Well, if he continues doing exactly what he has done in the senate, it will certainly be more of a change than McCain (compared to the current president.) But I do agree that far more will remain the same than will change. >As far as the bridge, do you really think there is any political leader that would give the money back? No! Indeed, one could argue that a "good" governor would fight over every earmark tooth and nail for the citizens of Alaska. Had she not claimed she was against earmarks, that would have been a point in her favor. >She did nothing to get the 'pork' for AK. She actually fought quite hard for AK earmarks. There are notes in her own handwriting congratulating her team for getting such earmarks. (The quote is on a report of earmarks for Wasilla; she added in her own hand "FYI This does not include our nearly one million Dollars from the Feds for our Airport Paving Project. We did well!!!") billvon 2,990 #67 October 2, 2008 >She did reduce AK's total earmark requests by 30%. Yes, she did. You could say "she reduced them by 30%" or "she only requested $198 million in earmarks last year." And again, if the McCain campaign was claiming that some earmarks were OK, then it would be a non-issue. But they're not. When asked if Palin sought earmarks, he said "No, not as governor she didn't." Palin herself said she was against earmarks. Had she said "I plan to cut earmarks a bit, like I did in Alaska" then no problem.
