skybill 22 #52 October 15, 2008 Hi bv, Don't "leave," "secede!!" The "South" did once before. Inspite of the outcome of that war that a lot of people think the "North" won, they havn't seen the number of "Stars and Bars" that still fly around here!! A little recent history for you, remember the national election in 1968?? If you weren't born yet, do a little research!! Ask someone who was there.SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
billvon 3,008 #53 October 20, 2008 So now we're up to four potential people bailing on the USA if Obama is elected. Drdrive just mentioned that he may take his tax dollars and move to Central America.

I doubt the "red" states will secede though, since they are currently subsidized by the "blue" states. www.nemw.org/taxburd.htm... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. mnealtx 0 #55 October 20, 2008 Looks like there's blue states in there being supported, too - imagine that. I'd love to see that data broken down by metro / rural and see where the 'overages' REALLY come from.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. Lucky... 0 #58 October 20, 2008 QuoteQuoteQuoteI'm thinking Thailand but I would never credit Obama with such a positive change in my life. Why would you leave the US, the greatest country in the world? Well it certainly wouldn't be for good. Not renouncing my citizenship or anything. However I do feel it would be a good thing to spend some time overseas. Especially in the country my mom came from. Hell! At least in Thailand they have the balls to kick their corrupt politicians out of office. They seriously do not tolerate any sort of bullshit out of their leaders. Are you refering to GWB? tbrown 26 #60 October 20, 2008 Yeah right - conservatives (presumably) leaving the US for the safe harbor of socialist Canada ? I don't think so. Even through all the Bush years, I only know of one couple who actually made the move to Canada for that reason. And I find them a little strange anyway, but I guess if it means that much to them they did what they had to do. Of course, Canada is considerably WHITER than the US, but THAT couldn't possibly be the reason for moving..... Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity ! warpedskydiver 0 #61 October 21, 2008 Quote Quote Recently BillyVance posted the picture below, suggesting people would leave the US if Obama got elected. So let's see who really has the courage of their convictions. Post here if you plan to leave. So far WarpedSkydiver has been making noises about some tropical location, MikeForsythe said he would prefer the Carribean, and BillyVance seems to be hinting about Canada. Anyone else? It's only 'cos he's desperate to work as my SCUBA bitch on my tropical paradise. I think it is a strong possibility that if we took a few of our good friends along, we could just start our own countryBill I never said I was leaving, but rather I know where I might go if I chose to. mr_music11 0 #63 October 21, 2008 Funny... I've heard of the opposite as well... McCain wins=move. Honostly these days.. if you claim that you are a politician, in my eyes.. you already have 2 strikes against you, no matter what party you are affiliated with. Im tired of the standard rhetoric, the laudry list of ficticious statements that seem to be thrown about so easily by those put into positions of power. No matter who ends up in office.. they will have one heck of a mess to clean up! With that said, I still believe that we live in the greatest country in the world, where we do have a much larger set of freedoms than most. Freedoms that are increasingly coming under attack, all in the name of homeland security or financial stability. Wake up people! Encourage all of age to vote! Raise your voice and make a difference! If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
georgerussia 0 #64 October 22, 2008 Quote Fair enough; four (now five) people talking about leaving. I wouldn't care about people leaving, as it probably only be a few of them. We didn't see the exodus during Bush term as well. I would however be more worried about _money_ leaving - it is much simpler.* Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
Andrewwhyte 1 #65 October 22, 2008 I doubt many Americans actually get up and leave because of the election results. What may happen is a shift in resident-alien populations. I have met many Canadians who have quit the US over the last few years because the cultural differences have widened. Whether this anecdotal data represents a true trend I am not sure, but it certainly felt that way, particularly after the second Bush win. Since Canada is the country with the smallest cultural gap with Americans I can only guess that the trend would be more pronounced for other resident-aliens. Another area is foreign students. There was some talk a few years ago about the increased opportunities Canadian Universities had to attract quality grad students and faculty from countries where US admission was either more difficult or perceived to be less attractive. Are there other resident-aliens (current or potential) who would stream the other direction? I would presume so but (just so nerdgirl doesn't rip me to shreds ) I have no data. CanuckInUSA 0 #67 November 5, 2008 QuoteOf course, Canada is considerably WHITER than the US, but THAT couldn't possibly be the reason for moving.... Huh? you haven't been to Canada in a long time have you? The largest three cities in the country are like being in the United Nations (since we opened our doors to immigrants from every nation, we have it all here now ... you know when something happens in some part of the world there will be people from that nation demonstrating saying Canada isn't helping them ... we are kings of the special interest groups and 2nd to none when it comes to whining). Plus in so called "Red Neck" Alberta I happen to live in an area of Calgary that is dominated by the Chinese. Walk around my local grocery store and 10 out of 20 people are Chinese (with many of them actually speaking Cantonese or Mandarin, some don't even know English), 7 out of 20 would be Caucasian and the remaining 3 out of 20 would be some other race. For the most part we all peacefully co-exist with each other, but we don't interact and inter mingle as much as you may think. I am a friend of the USA, but it would be nice for a change for some of you folks to observe what is happening outside of your borders before you begin telling us what the rest of the world is like. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
