Right or Left you have to admit.......

>No I don't (have to admit).

ok you don't then....

>Honestly I think that a significant majority of voters voted racially and did not have an understanding of the politics, polices and potential outcomes involved.

You really think that many people voted racially? When is there an election that has voters that actually take the time to understand the policies? Sad but true...

>I really didn't like either major candidate, and I think that BO's promised change will not turn out like people think it will. I believe that as he settles into office over the first 100 days, we'll see a swing back towards the middle in his polices.

I hope so but I don't think it is true. I think BO is going to push as many government programs through as he can. His solution to this mess is more regulation, more power to the fed, and more federal programs to deal with all of this. He is not a liberal dem he is a socialist. I am happy the dems did not get 60 in the senate at least the GOP will still be able to philibust. Checks and balances are really important especially right now!

Still.............. I think it is a good thing that the US is where it is right now in term of race. Long way to go ..... it seems to be shifting the opposite way but still a US black president speaks volumes.

I agree in broad strokes with your point. The NAACP does not: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/14/naacp-head-obama-win-wont_n_112487.html

Well how else are they going to exploit there own race and make money? I think they are going to lose a little punch with BO being the prez.

I happen to agree with the NAACP that having BO as president won't end racism. It's a nail in the coffin, but all those people who wouldn't vote for him because he's black are still out there, and all the institutionalized thought is still out there.

But it will increase the visibility of success through hard work, the it makes it clear that, while each person can't be president (thank goodness :P), that there are a lot of options.

My father is 90; he really, really wanted to vote in this election for Barack Obama (as it turns out, he couldn't because of a head injury, but, well, it didn't matter). He remembers things that most of us don't, and he remembers feelings that most of us haven't experienced because the world has changed.

He said that in the 50's he couldn't understand why the blacks were being so pushy. Things WERE changing, and he thought the direction was good, and the change fast enough. But he said, too, that in retrospect he was completely wrong. The change was slow enough to be somewhat comfortable for the people in power, but that wrong is wrong, and sometimes the comfortable people need to suck it up and be uncomfortable.

The world is still changing. People who don't like that have to accept it, and people who want it to change faster has to accept it.

His solution to this mess is more regulation,

If there had been more lending regulation by the Bush administration over the past 8 years, the country would not have been in this financial hole to begin with.

Bush, McCain etc. wanted more regulation on the GOVERNMENT entity. It is a result of no regulation on the government not the banks. The government passed down the orders to lend more money. Fannie and Freddie and now the fat pockets of "certain" politicians are pretty happy about what they got out of it. Top money list.... Obama was pretty high up there. Why do we need to regulate a government entity thqat is already controlled by the government anyway??? Anyway.... BO has a husge mess on his hands and I doubt he will improve it in any way.... I hope he does though! I'm just saying I'm proud we as a country were able to vote a black man in to office. I wish it was Collin Powell though!
