How much (more) damage can Bush et al. do ..

..... before leaving office.

They still have power and must be thoroughly pissed off. It's not really in their best interest to make the transition smooth - so what are they up to?

Other than pardoning Scooter Libby (who should be shot imo), I think Bush will make every effort for as smooth a transition as possible. I remember that he was complaining up and down about Clinton's lack of assistance and the practical jokes the outgoing staff was pulling.

The stories about the Clintons & staff trashing the Whitehouse before leaving, or stealing furniture or the letter "W" from computer keyboards, turned out to be either grossly exaggerated or flat-out bullshit.

I'm waiting for the rash of Presidential pardons, to pre-excuse himself and his cabinet at a minimum.

Honestly, I think that's why the smart people in Washington haven't brought any of them up on charges yet. I don't think he can "pre-excuse" anyone that hasn't been charged yet.

well they sure did 'pre-declare' themselves winners in certain states during the previous presidential elections...

and then twisted the right arms,,,, to make it happen.

not unlike the way that they twisted the arms of the CIA and the 'intelligence" community to "create" the reports of WMD, and enriched uranium procurement attempts...as a prelude to the war... which they wanted to start,,, the day after the 2000 election was won ( stolen)

I believe the Clinton Administration came in to a White House with a trashed phone system (miscabling left and right), and I wouldn't be surprised if they passed it forward to the next Bush.

Given the state of affairs, I would hope the current Administration would put the country's interests above such pettiness, and leave the office with dignity. But if they're as bitter as many of the party supporters have been this month, it will be a mess.

That raises an interesting point. No "Winner" has ever faced an Internation War-Crimes Trial. Those are reserved for the losers of the actual conflict.

I think there's the same chance of Bush & Co. being charged after leaving office as there was of Tony Blair being charged. None.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit if they gave Israel the nod to go attack Iran. That might be Obama's test they've been talking about. [:/]

Isn't that exactly what Ford did for Nixon?

Edit: Yes, it is.

Don't underestimate the man.

He can (i) still start another unwinnable war or two; (ii) dissolve the National Park system and bequest all federal lands to mining and timber companies; (iii) destroy the world (remember Kubrick's "Dr. Seltsam or how I Learned to Love the Bomb"); (iv) declare the US a muslime-free zone...and, and, and.

But let's not give him any ideas.
