Perhaps history will judge G W Bush as an utter idiot who did no right. How then will they judge the people who voted for him... Or didn't vote against him?

Ah, so the true motivation comes out. People keep spewing this GWB hasn't been judged by history and can't be yet nonsense because they're afraid of how they'll be perceived because of their previous support of him.

Well, ya know what, elections have consequences. I might forgive those that elected GWB the first time. Ok, they didn't like Clinton and wanted to get a Republican in office. Fine I get that and hold no ill will. However, if a person voted for GWB the second time . . . then they DO share a piece of the responsibility for the crap he's pulled. They should man-up, take the hit and learn from it.

What kind of a fucking reporter is this?

Embedding reporters to record history and not sway the election has been a bit of a tradition for 20 or so years. They embargo it via contract until the election is official. Not all campaigns let this happen either.

k i just watched the o'reilly version. i cannot believe that he suggested that its just her frame of reference in geography, history and political structure that are weak...but she can be tutored...?!!! are we really that bad off, that we'd stoop to selecting someone to be the vice president of this country, someone who could become the PRESIDENT, that needs to be freaking tutored on basic geography, history, and political structures?

that makes me sick to my stomach...if they were elected, and then this kind of information came out...well, just thank goodness that didn't happen.

at least she knows how many states there are. there are 57 right?

ok i kept hearing about this one but i never knew what was being referenced. i just found the clip on youtube, and it sounds to me like he was making a joke that the audience understood..but that's neither here nor there. i don't think obama's intelligence or education have ever been in question by either side, regardless of who you liked to win....

my post was about o'reilly suggesting that we should be okay with needing to tutor our VP on the basics of political structures, and on geography and history. stuff we learn in elementary school. that, to me, is absurd. as absurd as a party choosing a running mate without knowing how uninformed they truly are about world affairs.

But but....they gave GW political capital to spend. And he was going to spend that capital over his 2nd term!

Yep - the media's fault

You would have thought they would have cut her some slack... what with her credentials there would be some kind of professional courtesy.

Maybe most of them don't have a degree in basketweaving journalism like she has and were just jealous.:S

Nobody said that.
Nobody said that.
AND...
Nobody said that.

I just read this entire thread and, nobody said that. Quade said that most of the world hates BUSH, and in response to that you posted an article saying that 16/17 major countries (now 17/17 after Election Day) hate Bush. I'll quote my girlfriend here (after I've fucked up): "Do you need a shovel?"

No, I need data. Not goofy opinions

Actually, I need data. Where did anybody say the world hates the US? Show me.

There are no opinions in my post. I simply re-counted many of the posts that have already happened in this thread.

So I will ask you. Do you think the media covered Biden and Palin equally?

Nope. Biden got virtually no airtime at all.

Palin was on, at rallies, etc, being covered a lot more. She was also on SNL, which gave her a lot of exposure (and not negative).

I would say Palin got a LOT more positive exposure than Biden did. Palin also got negative coverage though - gaffe, after gaffe, after gaffe.

Frankly, based on his reputation I'm surprised Biden didn't gaffe more (and would have hence been covered more) - but the fact is, he rarely did.

The media, quite simply, are going to report the most interesting/sensational stuff since it's what people will watch. Palin provided plenty of it - hardly the media's fault.

Ian

Biden did gaff more. You just did not see it from where you chose to get your info.

And those on FOX MSNBC and ABC stated this week that they think SNL was very bad for Palin. I will admit I found that a little surprising.

Do some Google Biden Palin gaff searches. I think you will be suprised at what you find

I don't think I ever supported him (check my profile?). I do think that at times he did what the majority of Americans wanted at that moment, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Bear in mind that the largest block of popular vote in either of the two elections Bush won was "Didn't Bother".

Personally, I can forgive both those who voted for Bush, AND those who voted against him. They all did what they thought was best at the time. The ones I can't forgive are those who could have, but didn't.

But tha's not that important. There is a fundemmental difference between making a gaffe, and being one.

How is it possible to debate when you put words in our mouths? I've asked you to show where Quade said what you claimed. Now you're changing it to something different, which he STILL didn't say.

Further, your poll does not prove that the US standing is good (or bad). It is not a poll about "US standing." It's a poll about which candidate is preferred.

Neither I (nor anybody in this thread) claimed that (1) the US is hated or (b) the US has "low standing"... but since you keep begging for it, and are now specifically asking for a "poll" which supports it... HERE you go. Took me 30 seconds of searching on Google.

An unusual aspect of this election is how little qualified Palin was to be VP, and how much more qualified Obama's running mate was than himself.

In terms of years of service, I agree.
In terms of leadership charisma . . . you're way off base.

I was speaking strictly of experience. We've had charismatic people in office who weren't the best leaders, and vice-versa.

i absolutely agree with that. although usually my opinions here are voiced in support of obama, i of course realize that flaws lie on both sides. i'm not even speaking about sarah palin specifically when i say how ridiculous i think o'reilly's comment was. she just happens to be the person he was talking about. the idea that a deficiency that BIG could be considered acceptable for someone in the VP position blows my mind. that he would suggest needing tutoring on such basic concepts is something to just wave a finger at...i don't get that logic. that's all. (i really do fundamentally dislike sarah palin...she represents everything i oppose. not the GOP, her. so of course i'm personally pleased that all the rumors are finally being *somewhat* substantiated)

Here it is:

Rush, you've said some pretty wild things in your time but you have just set a new high for dead enders. How you can sit there and type that his failure has yet to be judged is almost beyond belief. His failure has been judged, not just by me or some folks here on SC, but by the vast majority of the planet who, if it were not the fact he has his finger on the largest nuclear stockpile in existence, would be calling for a war crimes trial.

That post is about BUSH. Not the USA.

So, I'll ask for the third time, where did Quade (or anybody) say either of the things you've claimed?

Quote

the Middle east?
Did you read your link?

Yes, did you?

According to a recent BBC World Service poll of 26,000 people in 25 countries (mostly non-Arab), just 29 percent now feel the United States exerts a mainly positive influence on the world. That compares with 36 percent who felt that way a year ago and 40 percent two years ago. When asked about the U.S. military presence in the Middle East, an average of 68 percent of respondents across the 25 countries answered that it provokes more conflict than it prevents.

Actually Rush, even the Fox news article states that only half the polled countries were strongly pro US, and more than half the countries in the poll were 1st world western nations who you would normally expect to share a lot of ideology.

If that's the only data source you have, then you'll convince no-one.
