Obama must respond to Writ of Certiorari by December 1

I disagree.

It's more of a cultural thing - at least when used with "my" or "your" anyway.

If people allow themselves to be offended by the words of others, this will never end.

then it will *never* end.
Words are weapons.
Whoever made up the rhyme "Sticks n' stones will break my bones but words'll never hurt me" was an idiot and deserves to be sticked n' stoned to death.

The Constitution and the bible are mere collections of words too.

BTW, I agree it's a cultural thing. And culture, or lack of it, is directly related to intellect.

There's simply no other way to look at it.

Oh, bullshit. That phrase has become common usage in the last, oh, decade or so - where have you been?

I guess Will Farrell is racist for saying "You're my boy, Blue" in Old School, too?

That's because they weren't white.

Duh.

If I called you a cracker, you'd be good, too. But if a black man did, you'd be pissed.

Anything done or said to a white person is not racist for some reason. Anything said by a white person OTOH... :S

this is the worst, most childish thread I've ever seen

Ah. Obviously you hate children.

oh, now you are accusing me of childism?

well, just to even call someone that indicates someone that is truly childist in nature - so there :P

Insert - a string of posts where about 20 people attack about 3 people with the childist label just so they can feel smug and superior, then the 3 can feed that smugness by actually attempting to even try and respond. But it's very important, that both teams start throwing out stereotypes and labels and name calling.

Bush was born in Texas. If you go back far enough, that was FRANCE.

Bush is therefore, French.

Actually, if you're talking about George W., he was actually born in Connecticut.

That's just to make sure he doesn't get a Native Texan license plate set. :P

There is plenty of racism against whites.... but their effect is no where close to the results of systemic racism that has been leveled against blacks....native americans...mexicans or asians in this country. I will not even go into the sexism that has been extant...forever.

I don't think ANYONE who is trying to justify the use of words that they KNOW have a racial component to them is being truthful to themselves. There is a backlash by those same people because of what they percieve to be political correctness. I think its because its so ingrained into their speech and ethos that they just cant help themselves and when they slip and use the language they grew up with with theior friends and family... they are looked at by the people now around them for just what they are.

I grew up in the south.. with generations of southern culture behind me... raised by people who found it easy to use the term boy to describe a black man. When I was a child it was still common to use the term boy for even much older black men who worked for my grandfather.

That said I have seen just as much racism in places like the segregated suburbs of Chicago and neighborhoods of Milwaukee.

Its overt...it affects peoples ability to get education.. to get jobs..... to even buy a home in some places.

There are plenty of people who seem to want to cover this up... label anything PC as a horrible terribile thing that is happening to their insular world. But be sure.. if you bemoan the time when you could use your racist words... or if you go ahead and use them.... you will be seen by other people for what you are....

So what needs to be done to end racism and sexism?

* The PC route is to ignore and pretend peoples differences do not exist. Denial never works for too long.
* Quotas are just reverse racism and IMO are demeaning: implying they can't do it on their own.
* Creating separate groups (NOW, NAACP) is just a different form of segregation. History has taught us "separate but equal" does not work.

Yes, people have done horrible things to others in the past, but what's done is done. Rather than just reverse the cycle and be racist to another group, let's break it.

"Education not regulation" :P

Besides, us "evil white men" will be minorities ourselves in the US in less than a generation. :)

ITs a choice... you can speak the way that the majority of people do.. having removed the usage of those words from comon usage in those contexts or not...if you dont... you show your true stripes and we can avoid you as a throwback to a time when it was normal to call a black man..boy or nigger. If that negatively affects your life.. tough fucking shit.

Conversly they DO address the fact that without them...certain people would continue with the way they ALWAYS did business before. Perhaps someday people will hire and select based soley on merit.. but it is still very easy to find things being done because the people doing it just prefer to select based on who they have always been comfortable doing business with.

People are still doing horrible things to people....perhaps someday it will be different. Even education.. is not equal or even equal access.. so unfortunately regulation is still needed until the old ways die out;.

As far as evil white men.... how about the percentages of them who have been in charge while raping the American treasury and economy over the last few years....obviously they still wield a hell of a lot of influence over ALL of our lives and they have not been doing such a great fucking job.

>What this means is that on or before 1 DECEMBER 2008 Barack Hussein
>Obama II must respond to the writ of certiorari . . .

===========================
From Newsmax:

Team Obama:"All I can tell you is that it is just pure garbage."

According to the WorldNetDaily headline above, that was the retort of an Obama campaign spokesperson when asked about complaints requesting that Senator Obama produce a valid Birth Certificate to prove that he is constitutionally eligible to be President of the United States.

Article 2, Section 1, of the Constitution of the United States, states, "No person except a natural born citizen of the United States, at the time of adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President."

The Constitution of the United States is NOT "garbage" and furthermore, securing the rights of the people under the Constitution is NOT "garbage"!

The Obama campaign's response is an elitist, condescending slap in the face to patriotic Americans. No one is above the law and Team Obama cannot make the question of Obama's eligibility go away by disrespecting the American people - and, by inference, the Constitution of the United States.
=============================

Otter Stratton:

For if you do, then shouldn't we blame the whole fraternity system? And if the whole fraternity system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, Greg - isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen! (the Deltas exit, singing the Star Spangled Banner.)

To me, "boy" or "your boy" is not racist. If anything it's ageist. Is it deragatory? Yes. Is is racist? No. Besides words only have power if we let them.

Power and greed are not problems limited to one race though.

PC isn't as bad as it used to be thank god. I swear there was time in the 80's where if you were trying to describe someone you couldn't use their race in the description without being called a racist regardless of what term you used. :S

Its all about context....

what you call one of your friends is one thing...

So now you want to continue doing the same thing with your boy in charge?

referring to an accomplished black man as boy...

just aint the same thing.. and that is what started this whole line of "conservative" language justification.

Words only have power if people let them. If you called me a cracker ass white bread honkey sure I can get upset and want to fight or I can just ignore you.

A madman that writes a manifesto about how he plans to destroy the government or even a government writing a declaration of war is nothing unless there is action taken on it. The words themselves while maybe thought provoking, inflammatory, enraging, etc. are still just words.

Personally, I'd rather someone write horrible things about me than kick my ass... :P

That is why several people have suggested that the people who like to call people BOY... should try it in person in certain areas just to seee if the people who hear it will react in a certain way...

Want to bet there are places in all 50 states where doing so.. would get your ass kicked??

I contend that if Obama was white, John would still have said the same thing and of course wouldn't have been called a racist. Kerry/Bush: Your boy/Our boy.

But since he is, John should have treated him differently? That's still a form of racism but just reversed.:S

To me treating everyone the same, regardless of the past is about the least racist you can be. :)

white men? i think the raping of our treasury and economy has been done by all sides. over the last 10 years i have seen whites, blacks, asians and europeans all have a hand in this mess we have now. Greed is an equall opertunity employer. Just because a white guy is in charge doesn't mean all races aren't cutting out their pice of pie. If you look at congress and the white house now you will find it is a vastly different color now than it was 15-20 years ago. Even with Obama getting elected, the system will get worse and be left unchecked until the citizens stand up and put an end to it.

So because a word may possibly offend someone somewhere and cause them to react it can no longer be said or written in any context or only when referring to anyone other than a white person?

Does this mean that if a white man is talking to his son and says "boy" in earshot of African Americans and they take offense to it and kick his ass, they were justified? Do you really propose censoring any language based on its possibility to offend?
