Just on CNN - Blagojevich arrested?

Guilty on one count (lying to the FBI). Hung jury on the other 23 counts.

His brother - hung jury on all 4 counts.

There are some juries I'd have like to have hung.

Anyhow, those old enough will recall that a lot of the Watergate defendants got themselves sentenced to tennis camp in Connecticut for, when all else failed, lying to the FBI.

I followed the trial and I didn't think the prosecution did a good job at all. The defense didn't call a single witness and still the prosecution couldn't convince 12 people that he was anything but a sleaze. If being a sleaze was a crime we'd have to build a whole lot more prisons. Some of the commentators here suggested that the jury was put off by the "piling on" by the prosecution.

Most of the work by the defense was done long before the trial. It was the news interviews, talk show appearances, guest spots on the apprentace.

We don't mind convicting politicians in this country, but we aren't as eager about convicting celebreties.

Well, since the hung jury was hung 11-1 for conviction, and a couple of jurors have said that the holdout was completely unwilling to discuss the issue, it could also be that they got a juror who wasn't, in fact, impartial.

Or 11 of them

Just what I was thinking;
Who was the fool who put Henry Fonda on the jury.>:(

According to a friend in Chicago, that 12th juror was promised a Senate seat.:D

They convinced 11. It's not like the jury acquitted him of any of the charges. I think they'll make out with the next 12. Blago might have to testify in round 2.

Repeatedly :P. And I'm not entirely sure I could be impartial for this particular sleazeball

That doesn't mean that every time there is one holdout on a jury, that the one holdout is the only one that is correct. If fact, most likely it is the one holdout that is wrong.

Of course.... this is supposed to be a democracy right.

11 people reaching a consensus is more likely to be correct that one lone person. I'm sure that you could cherry pick unreasonable examples where this isn't the case-but your position would still be just as wrong.

So... if you have 11 sheeple who slept thru most of the trail and just want to get the fuck out of there... you are good with that.... in all cases... I mean it is a consensus right.

Texan juries manage to get it wrong even with NO holdouts.

Thank you for making my point.:)
(At least IL hasn't executed an innocent man - as far as we know).
