Bush says bible probably not literally true

Asked whether the Bible was literally true, Bush replied: "Probably not. No, I'm not a literalist, but I think you can learn a lot from it."

I wonder if this pisses off the religious right? I know plenty of Christians that will swear that the Bible is 100% true and the work of God.

Being true and being literally true can be very different. The Bible is full of parables meant for teaching a specific lesson. I personally don't believe everything is literally true, particularly Revelation. Just my opinion.

Just curious, and I'm asking without intending to offend anyone. But if the Bible is not literally true, does that mean the 10 commandments are really only general guidelines? I mean, isn't it hard to separate what you think might be the word of God (i.e. literally true) from what may just be a parable that shouldn't be taken literally?

If everyone is allowed to judge for themselves which parts of the Bible are worth following, and which aren't true, then it seems like the entire foundation of western religion is null and void.

But hasnt that been the way it has been for centuries? The Bible we have today is not the same one that they had lets say, 600 years ago. Different churches pick and choose all the time.

Wow it sure seems divergent from the reasons he started the war...

George Bush has claimed he was on a mission from God when he launched the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, according to a senior Palestinian politician in an interview to be broadcast by the BBC later this month.
Mr Bush revealed the extent of his religious fervour when he met a Palestinian delegation during the Israeli-Palestinian summit at the Egpytian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, four months after the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.

One of the delegates, Nabil Shaath, who was Palestinian foreign minister at the time, said: "President Bush said to all of us: 'I am driven with a mission from God'. God would tell me, 'George go and fight these terrorists in Afghanistan'. And I did. And then God would tell me 'George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq'. And I did."

Mr Bush went on: "And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, 'Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East'. And, by God, I'm gonna do it."

Actually the article gives quotes that appear to be hearsay and have nothing to do with the Bible and would suggest that perhaps Bush has disregarded the Bible and is depending on voices in his head....

By that measure you could say that Star Wars/Pulp Fiction/Sesame Street is true, just not literally true. It's a pretty useless measure because it means whatever the hell you want it to mean. As an author, God blows.

But you may as well laugh at things that you have no influence over, hey?

"Always look on the bright side of life .... D'Do....etc"

I can always use a good laugh, and I would like to see the 3 part special....but I'll still maintain that we should actually consider the seriousness if these quotes are true......

I'm not gonna lie...if you actually sincerely apply the Bible....its a trip, and if you haven't done so for just 1 year of our apathetic existence, I'd presume you're missing out....But one thing's for sure....if you start hearing voices, the jig is up man, get help! Sound the Alarm! That ain't part of the package...something went horribly wrong!

If there is proof of Bush admitting that he hears voices, He needs to be booted right now.

EDIT

SOUND THE ALARM!

There is no difference, so it can not have different meanings. Most Christians just pick out the parts that fit well with thier life styl and dump the others ( no stonings, killing your children, refususing to follow kosher laws etc ect ect......)
If Bush would have been this honest in 2000 he would have never been elected. Lying is not very christian, but when it suits you'r political goals I guess it's ok
I guess the only people in the country who still like Bush are the secular right (all 6 of them)

And there you have the essence of modern organized religion. Cherry picking sheep.

Ten Commandments, hmmm. I like to fuck the neighbor's wife, guess I'll go with 9. And I had to kill that God damned mother fucker who broke into the other neighbor's house and stole his TV. Maybe make it 8, I mean 7.

:D:D:D...lol just had to share this...:D...I can't stop laughing...

Here is another link that is more related to your reply....It will explain why nobody can ever adhere to the 10 commandments....ultimately they were purposed to show us that we can't live by them 100%...even though most people think we should.

Yes I know its confusing but you're gonna have to try harder if you wanna understand...

>Isn't the end of the US or was it the world supposed to happen before he
>gets out of office?

His most recent update:

==========================
Some time ago, I interpreted some biblical prophecies that spoke clearly of the end of the USA, ( NOT the end of the world as some thought), and I mentioned it would take place before the end of Bush's 2nd term.

Well, a continuance of research causes me to believe it will not be before the end of Bush's 2nd term, but shortly after his successor is elected to the President's
office, ......sometime before September of 2009.

This will be the 62nd WEEK ( of years) of Daniel's prophecy, and either shortly before or shortly after New York City and Washington are wiped off the map, a very large asteroid will hit in mid Atlantic, causing enormous problems to the east coast of North America and the west coast of Europe.

I just thought I would bring everyone interested up to date.

Nevertheless, you won't have to wait too long....it IS going to take place.....just a few extra months to enjoy yourselves while you can.....maybe a few extra jumps !
===========================

So now we have another year before the asteroid hits and the US collapses.

I wish the End Times thing would just happen so we could get it over with & all these date-setters would finally STFU.

I think we could just set up a big show in the valley of Armageddon, complete with angels, 4 horsemen, the Beast with 7 heads, special effects, celebrity guests, live music, refreshment/souvenir/t-shirt booths, etc.

It's in the desert so there'd be plenty of free parking.

It would be nice to just get this done once and for all.

Whose with me?
