Acts done in anger with intent of harm are different than acts of drunken misbehavior. (but... nice that you got the snipe in there about how your threshold is higher.... whatever that really means?)

It wasn't just a verbal insult. It wasn't just waving the sole of his shoe. He pitched it up there to strike him. Had President Bush not ducked, he would have been thunked in the head. Major injury, no. And I'm not saying that it would have been. But it was a physical act directed toward another that had seemed to have the intent of hitting him with it.

Do you guys SERIOUSLY believe that this should be condoned, encouraged, laughed with.... "cuz it's just a shoe" or "cuz it's GWB"?

I personally don't care either way. Still the "WTF?" look on GW's face after the 1st shoe is priceless, IMO. I would hope that if our goverment actually understands and respects the Iraqi customs, that we might finally get a clue about our foriegn policy. Not likely though.

Hey, no need to get all defensive. People throw things at me; that's fine. People throw things at people they are annoyed/mad at too, and I think you also understand that it depends on what people throw that makes a difference.

I am certain that, if you had an acrimonious debate with someone at work, and they threw a several-page document at you, you would not call the police to report a violent assault. You would simply consider the action rude. Likewise, if you were singing for the Crack Choir in Lost Prairie, and someone who disliked you threw a tomato at you, you would likely not consider that a violent assault; you would likely just get annoyed at the person (and others would probably yell at him and douse him with beer at the very least.)

However, if someone threw a knife at you in a dark parking lot, you might well call the police and be quite justified in doing so.

I am also certain you can see the difference between the two.

As I said before to speed. This is SC. Of the few times I've read here I can tell you what I know.

-no one hears the other person/side anyway.
-everyone likes to hear their own opinion...that just my opinion though.
-theres no reason for intelligent and open communication because people can just throw out scenarios of the other sides intent and others will jump in and agree that they are scumbags for that very scenario.

-then the other side reads and start defending their right to think how they wish to think.
-then each side tries to denounce the right for the other to have their own thought.

-someone uses a few harsh words
- a few warnings are divied
-then each team huddles in their corner and goes to a different thread to start the whole cycle over...
