The Death of Personal responsibility......

Recommended Posts

If you get drunk and smack your wife on an airplane then thats between you and the cops. You shouldn't be able to sue them b/c you have no self control!!! The airline is not controlling how much you drink and isn't making you have another round.

Me thinks it's between you and your wife/exwife. Hey. She might have deserved it. Fuck the cops. ;) And I didn't read the link
I hold it true, whate'er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.

You might want to read the article...............................

So, following the logic, drug pushers have no responsibility either.

If we are talking about all drugs, (not just illegal ones), then do you hold liquor stores responsible for the behavior of their customers, and any stores selling cigarettes responsible for the lung disease of their customers?

Well, the word "pusher" has a meaning. The complaint in the link claims United in essence pushed drinks on the couple.

I know semantics is an issue with some on here (mostly when they are losing an argument), but unless we all agree on the meaning of words (like "IS"), we risk misunderstanding each other.

Oddly enough the article doesn't have the words "push" or "pusher" anywhere.
Maybe reading comprehension is the bigger issue with some?
In essence, the case is trying to link responsibility of intoxication to the same level as a drinking establishment has in most municipalities. Get someone drunk, don't cut them off or remove them from your establishment and you could be found liable for the results of their actions while intoxicated on the liquor you sold them.
That "IS" what this is about - the LEGAL sale of intoxicants and the resulting effects.

Spin away as you will.

Oddly enough, I didn't write that it did. You missed the words "in essence".

Maybe reading comprehension is the bigger issue with some?

Supplying free booze at 20 minute intervals is rather like the tactics used by pushers to get kids hooked on dope. So, in essence, we have the same thing.

Do you put any blame on the person who kept taking more to drink every 20 minutes?

Sure, just like I blame kids who accept free dope from pushers. Doesn't absolve the pusher from some responsibility, though.

I've never seen the stews push anything. Far more common is for them to ignore the people in steerage.

Kallend since when do you get free booze on an airline? I don't think you get anything free anymore even in First Class.

And stop using the word pusher. You and I both know no one was up there force feeding him. He simply got himself to drunk and acted like an idiot.

Would you agree that everyone is responsible for there own action unless found to be mentally ill?

No one force feeds drugs to kids either, but we still call them "pushers". And kids who accept are idiots.

I've never in my life met one of these "pushers" that give away free dope.

dammit

So you're saying that the airline is WORSE than drug pushers, because they don't charge and drug pushers do. I wasn't going to go that far.

Ya i saw that it was an international Flight. They still charge for booze they don't charge tax though.

We are talking about Adults. Both people involved were over the age of 21. Therefore there actions are there own.

Lets look at your comparison.

Two full grown adults PAYING for a LEGAL beverage from someone who is legally allowed to serve it to them. The only legal issue here is that the man bought himself to many drinks and then hit his wife.

Two Kids who are underage buying illegal drugs from someone who is not legally selling the drugs. Everything here is a legal issue.

Find a better comparison dude.

but i do agree that kids that accept drugs from some guy on a street corner are idiots.

International flights still supply a stream of booze - keeps the passengers happy and pacified on a long trip stuffed into tight spaces.

But it's not the same as bars. Most people drive to and from bars, and will immediately be getting on the road after their drinks. At some point we decided the bartenders had to be part of the solution to drunk driving. I think it's a stretch, but so be it.

But plane passengers aren't driving out, and drinks aren't served during approximately the last hour in the air.

Bottom line - he shouldn't be slapping around his wife.
