cliffwhite 0 #1 January 4, 2009 If you were ordered to go house to house within your jurisdiction and confiscate all fire arms would you comply with that order? Blues, Cliff2muchTruth
AggieDave 6 #2 January 4, 2009 I think you'd see a lot of people ending their professional careers (turning in their badge) in Texas.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
Scoop 0 #3 January 4, 2009 We are not routinely armed over here so I would hope I wouldn't be sent to such a job! Leave that for the firearms boys in case it kicks off HOWEVER... If I was on your side of the pond I'd have no problem taking firearms off someone who had been found guilty of a violent act or was otherwise now deemed no longer suitable to possess a firearm. If it was a sweeping "remove firearms from the population" then I wouldn't be happy with that and I'd have to question how it would be lawful. In the police you cannot carry out an unlawful order and I've had many arguments with Sergeants & Inspectors who've asked me to do things I have considered to be unlawful. I'd be curious to hear from LEOs in regions where the prevailing cultural view of civilian firearms is different, for example, the New England or Mid-Atlantic states, or the West Coast. lawrocket 3 #6 January 4, 2009 Doesn't this depend on the circumstance. I'm sure that most LEO's who would have a problem with seizing them from a person with no criminal record would have no problem doing a seizure at the home of a convicted felon, parolee, etc. My wife is hotter than your wife. When they started turning up dead all over the place, I imagine that the number of officers willing to continue to carry out those orders would diminish rapidly. Good thing nobody in here wants to perpetuate any stereotypes.
