lawrocket 3 #103 January 24, 2009 I'm actually personal to vinyl. I find that the very flaws in the records make them better. Each record is unique, with its own sound. The scratches and everything add to the uniqueness - I know when the record I am listening to is mine. By no means do I consider myself a neo-luddite. Ecologically Marc and other deniers are willing to live in the brave new world... no matter how detrimental that may turn out for our children or other future generations. I applaud your willingness to face climate change boldly... no matter how it turns out. Personally I think its kewl.... I have cruised up to AK before... maybe by the time I retire.. I can take the boat farther up to NOME or even Barrow... I really love the midnight sun and cruising at midnight surrounded by a pod of Orca..... just amazing. I would love to get up to white whale land... so you guys keep up the good work.

Some day you and your wife can stay at our place! We generate more electricity than we use, we eat mostly locally, we use almost no fossil fuels (gasoline _or_ natural gas) and we use five times less water than your typical american - and we're not even all that stone aged, even though our ecological footprint is limited. lawrocket 3 #106 January 24, 2009 I don't yet generate mor electricity thar -n I use. I eat almost entirely locally (okay - I'm advantaged with that) I use fuel to go to and from work (I haven't wasted anything on a skydive or unnel time in 5 1/2 years - my environmental consciousness at work) But I do use water for showers - other than that I drink beer. Honestly - I'd love to stay at your place. You're a helluva guy! I'll prepare a waiver and sign it in the event I trip and fall on your property (a courtesy I extend to all licensors). Bill - if there is ANYONE I would list at "this guy's walk is more than his talk" it's you. As for me, I don't walk the walk nor do I talk the talk. I get effiicient for one purpose - save money. So I use less than many others. I use more than others, too. I am trying to save some scratch for a solar system. It's my next big investment. I was gonna do it a couple of years ago, till you recommended better insulation and energy saving appliances first. It is a sucky thing about living where I do. Winters are cold and summers are bloody hot! My wife is hotter than your wife.

lawrocket 3 #116 January 25, 2009 QuoteI seem to recall reading something about volcanic activity in Western Antarctica in the last few years - and didn't McMurdo station have a record low temp last year or the year before? This one I can't really look at with common sense and say it's a good reason for elevated temperature readings. Any effect would be pretty dang localized. It could explain localized thinning of the ice, as well as increased concenrations of CO2 but would be similarly matched with increases in sulfur, etc. My problems with this still are the use of the underlying satellite (TIR) data - NASA itself can only provide a 2-3 degree margin for it. To explain why the trend data won't work with it, NASA stated that the problems with the readins were that none of the satellites were in orbit at the same time and thus their readings cannot be directly compared. Even with comparison to direct ground observations, NASA still could only have a margin of 2-3 degrees because three different instruments were all used, making even trend data marginally unreliable. It means that even trends have the same troubles as providing absolute numbers. Trending an unreliable data trend with an unreliable data trend and another unreliable data trend doesn't cancel out the unreliability. My wife is hotter than your wife.
