I don't think U.S. citizens should have to serve mandatory service obligations.

However, I would like to see mandatory military service for anyone that wants to immigrate to the U.S.. That would put a serious dent in the illegal immagrant problem.

OK, but those 65 year old LEGAL immigrating Polish grandmothers might have trouble digging latrines and storming bunkers.

Somebody has to do the paperwork.

So you get "Dwa piwa podobac sie" on your requisition forms. Very useful.

Good job we didn't make legal immigrants like Enrico Fermi, John von Neumann and Hans Bethe serve a couple of years in the army before they joined the Manhattan Project.

Clearly you have NOT considered the implications (mostly stupid) of your proposal.

Actually I didn't have to. France and Spain did it for me. Both countries have foriegn legions. Geuss what they're purpose is ?

To teach spelling and grammar to immigrants?

Of course there will always be exceptions. Fermi, Neumann, and Bethe were all very well known in their fields be they chose to immigrate.

They are exceptions rather than the rule.

So the concept of "mandatory" has escaped you.

I voted no simply because when I was in the military the draft was still in effect and the waste and incompetence witnessed everyday was just astonishing.:o The G.I. motto of the time was "the unwilling, led by the incompetent, to do the unnecessary".:D

The older I get the less I care who I piss off.

That's REALLY funny.... Every generation thinks that the next is less disciplined then theirs.

You kids from the 70's were a bunch of slack arsed, spoilt brats compared to us hard done by post-war, hard working, never complaining 60's kids... so stop y'bitching

Corporal punishment was outlawed in NZ in the home and school at my last year of high school.

Political correctness has become rife and over the top and pussy assed, smart assed, lazy assed kids are the result.

There is a fine line between abuse and punishment but when a kid can have his father jailed for smacking him on the ass...

... things have gone way too far.

i understand it was harder post war, and it has gotten softer and softer as each generation has come to be but during my adolescence is when the unfortunate changes came into play that will have a strong lasting effect on society as we know it.

am far from perfect, but a brief stint in Canada's reserves back in the early 1980s really did wonders in turning my life around and it taught me a lot about personal responsibility

Why did the Canadian Tax payers have to pay for what your parents should have done?

You've deliberately mischaracterized what he said. The Court rules that he need neither respond nor rebut.

not at all.

Merely pointing out that using the government to take the place of parents is not a good thing.

Fuck the bailiff. I am excercising my 1st amendmend rights, don't make me excersize my 2nd amendmend rights as well....

Thus confirming my point. The Court has ruled. Do I have to signal the bailiff? Sit down.

Since their purpose is not to be the gateway to French or Spanish citizenship I have no idea why you've brought them up?
Do you want to have an ideagasm?
