PhreeZone 20 #2 February 27, 2009 There is a huge short fall in the money and it has to come from somewhere. Raise the taxes or implement some other fee structure. We have a local highway project that is scheduled to cost 1 Billion dollars and take 3 years, if it does not go in the average commute is pushing 45 minutes for 5 miles due to the congestion. DOT approved the project 10 years ago and stalled in implementing it. In Cleveland one of the only bridges into the city has multiple lanes closed since they have found that it has structural faults in it. This situation is occurring across the country at an alarming rate, the highway system was installed in the 50's and early 60's and for the most part has only had spot fixes to it since then. We are rapidly coming up to a point where lots of bridges need replaced and highways need upgraded since they were never designed to handle the traffic flow that they are receiving currently. Some how all of this has to be paid for. Instead of GPS I think it might work if the state governments would instead require you to have your odometer read yearly and sending you a tax bill based on that if a usage tax had to be used.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

Exactly. So government mandates more fuel efficient vehicles but cries when tax revenues go down because of it. Please don't dent the planet.
