One needs to understand why Americans sometimes eat substandard foods. We don't eat at Denny's because it tastes good. We eat at Denny's because they're open and located conveniently near the bar. We don't eat at Taco Bell because of the authentic Mexican flavor. We eat at Taco Bell because we can place our order in English American, and drink the water without getting the shits for a week. We don't eat at McDonald's because the food tastes good. We eat at McDonald's because we're too fucking fat and lazy to actually be bothered to get out of our cars and walk all the way across the small parking lot to go inside and eat. I agree that a good breakfast can be a great start to a day, although I prefer a three egg omelette with ham, cheese and vegetables, sausage (crunchy bacon will do in a pinch), hash browns, french toast, biscuits, fresh fruit, sweet rolls, orange juice, chocolate milk, and coffee. I'm not sure Denny's is the best place to get that stuff, though. The US Army had excellent breakfast every morning when I was in, but the idea of the government paying people to cook breakfast for a community is socialist and un-American, far too taboo for discussions in this forum.Math tutoring available. English food is crap and the funniest is when I have said this and people have got offended! For some reason the english (in general) accept extremely sub-standard cooking. In the US I found that food was either excellent or crap and it really helped to have a local guide where you went. I must say the US idea of BBQ beef is on par with British sauseges though - whats with cooking meat till it disintegratesExperienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived. The farther you get from Kansas City and/or Memphis, the less likely it is to find good BBQ. Over the past eight years, I've lived in four different Florida cities, and spent quite a bit of time in a few others. I've yet to find decent BBQ in this state; it's just too far from Kansas City. A general rule for finding a good place for BBQ is that if you walk into a BBQ joint, and the chairs all match, the best option is to turn around and walk right back out.Math tutoring available. That's funny because it's true. Another general food rule (less consistent) - SW food....If the chips are nasty, the food is good. If the chips are good, the food is typical but not outstanding. There is no such thing as bad SW food. ... For example, my absolute favorite BBQ is eastern North Carolina BBQ...pulled pork slow cooked in a vinegar-based "sauce" with NO tomatoes ANYWHERE near that pig! soooooo good.... Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
jcd11235 0 #41 March 2, 2009 Quote pulled pork slow cooked in a vinegar-based "sauce" with NO tomatoes ANYWHERE near that pig! 1. Vinegar != BBQ sauce 2. The meat and the sauce need to be cooked at significantly different temperatures. Cooking the meat in the sauce is a surefire way to ruin both (when using vinegar instead of real BBQ sauce, it might not ruin the vinegar). 3. Vinegar != BBQ sauce Math tutoring available.
