Obama's Poll Numbers Are Falling

Story:
Obama's Poll Numbers Are Falling

"It is simply wrong for commentators to continue to focus on President Barack Obama's high levels of popularity, and to conclude that these are indicative of high levels of public confidence in the work of his administration. Indeed, a detailed look at recent survey data shows that the opposite is most likely true. The American people are coming to express increasingly significant doubts about his initiatives, and most likely support a different agenda and different policies from those that the Obama administration has advanced.

"Polling data show that Mr. Obama's approval rating is dropping and is below where George W. Bush was in an analogous period in 2001. Overall, Rasmussen Reports shows a 56%-43% approval, with a third strongly disapproving of the president's performance. This is a substantial degree of polarization so early in the administration. Mr. Obama has lost virtually all of his Republican support and a good part of his Independent support, and the trend is decidedly negative..."

Speaking of the party being over; if the author of this opinion piece really thinks the 2-party system is going to end soon (as the plug for his book alludes), then his credibility is somewhere between zip and zilch.

The party is over.

And the part you snipped says:

"Finally, what probably accounts for a good measure of the confidence and support the Obama administration has enjoyed is the fact that they are not Republicans. Virtually all Americans, more than eight in 10, blame Republicans for the current economic woes, and the only two leaders with lower approval ratings than Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are Republican leaders Mitch McConnell and John Boehner."

Well, with the way we vote in Minnesota, his numbers are falling:

from 107% just prior to the election
Down to about 80%

of course, at least he's not the last guy:P

Live by a poll, die by a poll.

It must be realy sucky that BO's numbers are equal or lower than GB at the same time of each admin.
At least to those who like him.

Actually, this wasn't a story, this was from the opinion page, John.

Err...one administration isn't 2 months old yet, so any attempt to correlate the two is silly (or partisan). Plus Bush got the false boost for presiding over us getting blown up - any foreign policy event, good or bad, boosts Presidential ratings.

Should Obama make a second term, it's the comparison there that would be more significant.

poll numbers have nothing to do with a president fufilling his agenda....look at GWB.

you are right. Bush got demonized for doing what he said he was going to do. Obama is getting a pass for the oposite.

if GWB can get 2 terms, than it is possible that BHO could get 3!

Uh...no, sorry - doesn't work that way.

How much does THE CRISIS affect these polls? Times are tough, it's easy to blame the president, and I'd imagine that's taking him down a few notches in popularity, even if it's got nothing to do with anything that's happened since he took office.

Or maybe I'm just talking out my ass[:/]

When the chief of the Federal Reserve stands up and says that the depression isn't going to even start getting better until next year, you can bet Obama's numbers are going to continue to drop.

As far as the Wall Street Journal, they have lost all credibility as a politically-neutral financial rag. Financial experts are turning to the Financial Times for non-biased information about markets.

these numbers are pre 911. Bushes numbers went up over the first 50 days and Obama's are going down. seems to me people are starting to second guess the choice they made in november. the part of the poll that is alarming is the disaproval has doubled showing that people who gave Obama a look and see are not liking what they see.

Consider the fact that Obama inherited a completely FUCKED economy. Something that wasn't the case when Bush took office. The general population is feeling it right in the pocket book now. That is something that is hard for anyone to stomach.

Couple that with the driving desire for instant change, something that is just not possible and not going to happen, and you might understand where a dip in poll numbers would be coming from.

In the long term, thngs will most likely get better under this administration than it's non-elected alternative. Time will be the deciding factor. What will the comparison poll numbers look like 1-yr, 2-years from now and so on.

Micromanagement of large scale things on a week to week basis as any "proof positive" to any one politician doing the right job or not is a complete fallacy and just a tool for those with a differing agenda to throw mud.

That must be why Obama's approval is still over 60%, while 80% blame the Republicans for the economic mess. That must be why the Republican congressional leaders have even lower approval ratings than Pelosi and Reid.

From today's Gallup:
Barack Obama’s approval ratings have been very stable in the month of March so far, and his current 61% approval rating is more positive than the 58% rating for George W. Bush and the 53% rating for Bill Clinton in mid-March of the first years of their administrations.
