QuoteI guess you feel that Obama repealing welfare reform and applying it on the basis of race is fine.
Call it reparations, but don't lie about what it is meant to do.
and don't lie about your feelings about those 'races' you say are stealing your taxes

Apples and oranges here. Comparing Bush to a chimp insults his intelligence and has nothing to do with his race (for the most part anyway... though he does have striking similarities to a chimp in his facial features, and I don't mean that as an insult. Just is.). Even if the OP of the comment didn't mean that to be taken with racist context, it comes with the territory when using it in any form similar since "ape," or "monkey," has been used so frequently in derogatory comments towards African Americans.

I understand the prior negative connotation - what I disagree with is the knee-jerk reaction that it *MUST* be due to racism.

QuoteAs far as President Obama goes:
Some people like him. Some are more guarded. I am concerned about the direction that he seems to be taking my country. If you like him, fine. But... he is NOT your President. He is mine. And his FIRST responsibility is to the "We, the People." WE, the United States citizens, elected him. So, although you think he's cool, that is not nearly as important as whether WE think he's truly moving this country in a direction that WE want it to go.
I don't complain about or critique Prime Minister James Gordon Brown. I tend to keep my opinion in check about Queen Elizabeth II. I don't review the works of President Kohler nor should I. President Alvaro COLOM Caballeros is responsible to the people of Guatemala. Emperor Akihito is ruling in Japan and NOT signing law that directly impacts my life, so I have no voice in his decisions. I tend not to stick my nose into other countries politics... especially when I don't understand or give respect to the members of that country.
You need the support from other countries though, at least on a financial and political level. The US cannot sustain itself standing alone.

Quoteso now you know my thoughts ? When I said she looked like an ape I had no race thoughts just my thoughts like looking at a cloud and saying it looked like a rabbit. I am not racist nor do i care what color or from what country people are from. I do detest free loaders and illegals only because I am tired of working hard to pay their way.

> somewere else doesn't mean that is a better country.
You are absolutely correct! It just means that they found a better solution to a problem. The smart man learns from such solutions.
> We should not hurt our future or our currant stability because a foriegn country
> doesn't like our policies or us.
Absolutely. We should IMPROVE our current stability by using our brains to manage our alliances, our foreign agreements and our positions on foreign trade.
>Becoming them doesn't help us and only if it helps us should we help them until
>we are better able to take care of ourselves.
?? We _can't_ take care of ourselves, at least not and live the way we are used to. Our economy relies on foreign trade to survive. We ship food and technology all over the globe and import clothing, electronics, cars, you name it. End either one of those trade paths and you harm our economy.
I'm not aware of what you are referring to... fill me in. A march on Washington? State capitals? Inquiring minds want to know!

And? What do you expect from me? To take over that Turkish TV station and fire the "black" man? It's a free world, rushmc. Just have a look at your own TV stations.
BTW: Obama's looking forward to a stronger friendship with Turkey. It seems, the US is in need for strong partners....

Anyhow & somehow I have the impression you are not really concerned about the "black" man show.

If you think I am a racist you are quite far off.
Stick to things you know it will make you seem less foolish.
QuoteI checked it out and found that McCain had a similar plan in mind but, he called it 'reform'. Any way you slice it, 'tax breaks' or whatever, it all boils-down to the government cutting checks to the 'poor'. Six of one, half-dozen of the other. I really don't think, race has anything to do with it. What 'We the people' should do is, let our politicians know that we DON'T like it and let them know in a big way! Rather than sit-back and bitch about it. Whaddya' think?
Chuck
Agreed on letting the politicians know what we want, instead of them telling us they voted their minds.

Christel,
I would thank you for giving my opinion the respect that you seem to think that you deserve.... but you don't give my opinion any respect so no thanks are due.

I tend not to stick my nose into other countries politics... especially when I don't understand or give respect to the members of that country.
But, thinking back... I do believe that MANY on this forum were complaining about US interference in other countries leadership in the not so distant past.
So... which is it?
Or is it that YOU get to decide when YOU like our leaders.... but we, as a nation as a whole, get blamed when our leadership doesn't like others.
You are right that it is important to play well with others. And maybe President Obama is putting on a good show.... but maybe there's more to the opinions of others than you give credit.
What? Where? Missing respect to your opinion? I do not recall any reply given to you on that subject. Please, enlighten me.
For the rest of your post: Sorry, in certain parts your text just sounds silly, f.e. this one:
If you like him, fine. But... he is NOT your President. He is mine. And his FIRST responsibility is to the "We, the People." WE, the United States citizens, elected him. It's not easy to answer such statements. I'd have expected it from a 13 y/o girl but, not from you.
Aside from the fact, that I do accept our Mrs. Chancellor, the most mighty woman in the world, it's good for us to see how well respected she is. In the world. I do not have any problem to read alien newsletters, watch alien TV stations talking about her in positive words - in the contrary: It's just a confirmation for our clever choice to elect our Dr. Merkel.
You can be sure: SHE too is doing her best for US (us) at first - but, in smart combination and relationship with the rest of the (Western) world. *)
Your post sounds childish.
edited to add:
*) Not only Western world, that sounds wrong. But, as our orientation is a bit more towards the west....

You just said the Chancellor is mightier than Queen Elizabeth.
Wow.
The Chancellor may be only in charge for a few years.
The other one owns an empire..

Sweden’s foreign-born population is expected to reach 14 percent by the end of 2008, a year in which the country’s overall population had its greatest increase since 1970.
Five charged over Iraqi human smuggling ring (30 Mar 09)
Stockholm flight re-opens Iraqi air links with the EU (28 Mar 09)
Decision to work in Sweden proves costly for aspiring resident (24 Mar 09)
In the last decade, the Sweden’s foreign-born population has grown by 27 percent, as measured as a percentage of Sweden’s total population, according to Statistics Sweden.
If people born in Sweden to two foreign-born parents are added to the mix, the total comes to 378,000 people, or nearly 20 percent of Sweden’s overall population.
The 108,000 Iraqis now living in Sweden comprise the second largest group of foreign-born residents in the country behind natives of Finland, of which there are 176,000.
During the past year, 102,000 people immigrated to Sweden, a 2 percent increase from 2007.
Immigration from Iraq was down 21 percent from the year 2007, but still remained strong with an estimated 12,000 Iraqis entering Sweden in 2008.
Statistics Sweden estimates that the country’s overall population will reach 9,259,000 by December 31st, 2008, an increase of 76,000 for the year and the largest jump since 1970.
In addition to immigration, Sweden’s robust birth rate also helped push up the country’s population in 2008 as 109,000 babies were born, 2,000 more than the year before. A higher number of births than deaths in Sweden in 2008 account for 19,000 of the people added to Sweden’s population during the year.
Sweden also lost 26,000 citizens to emigration in 2008, with four in ten choosing to head to Norway, the United States, or the United Kingdom.
In addition, 44,000 non-Swedish citizens left the country, most of who returned to their countries of origin, resulting in a record net immigration for the year of 57,000 people.
