Jamile, Sir, rest assured - if one or two islands, who cares: Our Mrs. Chancellor at any gime will knuckle down for HRH. (Attention: Apple-polishers on the road, one never knows ...)

BTW: Who's MADAM? Warped?

As it should be. We do have a voice but, it's of no use if, we don't use it.
I'm not aware of what you are referring to... fill me in. A march on Washington? State capitals? Inquiring minds want to know!

Sweden’s foreign-born population is expected to reach 14 percent by the end of 2008, a year in which the country’s overall population had its greatest increase since 1970.

Five charged over Iraqi human smuggling ring (30 Mar 09)
Stockholm flight re-opens Iraqi air links with the EU (28 Mar 09)
Decision to work in Sweden proves costly for aspiring resident (24 Mar 09)
In the last decade, the Sweden’s foreign-born population has grown by 27 percent, as measured as a percentage of Sweden’s total population, according to Statistics Sweden.

If people born in Sweden to two foreign-born parents are added to the mix, the total comes to 378,000 people, or nearly 20 percent of Sweden’s overall population.

The 108,000 Iraqis now living in Sweden comprise the second largest group of foreign-born residents in the country behind natives of Finland, of which there are 176,000.

During the past year, 102,000 people immigrated to Sweden, a 2 percent increase from 2007.

Immigration from Iraq was down 21 percent from the year 2007, but still remained strong with an estimated 12,000 Iraqis entering Sweden in 2008.

Statistics Sweden estimates that the country’s overall population will reach 9,259,000 by December 31st, 2008, an increase of 76,000 for the year and the largest jump since 1970.

In addition to immigration, Sweden’s robust birth rate also helped push up the country’s population in 2008 as 109,000 babies were born, 2,000 more than the year before. A higher number of births than deaths in Sweden in 2008 account for 19,000 of the people added to Sweden’s population during the year.

Sweden also lost 26,000 citizens to emigration in 2008, with four in ten choosing to head to Norway, the United States, or the United Kingdom.

In addition, 44,000 non-Swedish citizens left the country, most of who returned to their countries of origin, resulting in a record net immigration for the year of 57,000 people.

China has immigrant population 3,852,000

Maybe you should re-think.

Nice one.

I myself thought the China/Sweden analogy was infinitely stupid and ignorant...way to set it straight.

American jingoism seems to go hand-in-hand with ignorance of countries outside the US.

Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

What? Where? Missing respect to your opinion? I do not recall any reply given to you on that subject. Please, enlighten me.

In my above comment, I even bolded your comments that insinuate that those who don't share your opinion must only be impressed by sabre-rattling. Not so respectful there.

For the rest of your post: Sorry, in certain parts your text just sounds silly, f.e. this one:

If you like him, fine. But... he is NOT your President. He is mine. And his FIRST responsibility is to the "We, the People." WE, the United States citizens, elected him. So, although you think he's cool, that is not nearly as important as whether WE think he's truly moving this country in a direction that WE want it to go.

It's not easy to answer such statements. I'd have expected it from a 13 y/o girl but, not from you.

Again... not so respectful. I point out that you do have your opinion, but ultimately how WE feel about OUR President and our confidence in his ability is more important than how he is doing on a world wide popularity contest and you compare that opinion to a teenage girl. Very respectful.

Aside from the fact, that I do accept our Mrs. Chancellor, the most mighty woman in the world, it's good for us to see how well respected she is. In the world. I do not have any problem to read alien newsletters, watch alien TV stations talking about her in positive words - in the contrary: It's just a confirmation for our clever choice to elect our Dr. Merkel.

You can be sure: SHE too is doing her best for US (us) at first - but, in smart combination and relationship with the rest of the (Western) world. *)

I'm glad that you are happy with your elected officials. But since I didn't vote for her and since she makes no policy in my neighborhood, I see no reason to insult or praise her.

Your post sounds childish.

Again... not quite respectful.

I think you just ended up proving my point with that post.

I think that that is the difference. The POTUS is directly responsible for the direct intervention in peoples lives across the world. Thanks to the mess that the US banking system created the whole world is now in a reccesion. How the US is governed has a direct effect on millions of non US citizens around the world. That entitles everyone to an opinion American or not. You are of course correct that his first responsibility is to the people of the USA but he also has a much wider responsibility to others around the world.

I can't believe he did that! Everyone knows that the proper way to greet the King of Saudi Arabia is to rub his shoulders, then vomit in his lap.

A bit like putting your arm around and winking at the Queen.:D

You are right, we do have impact on other countries.

But, my opinion is that the POTUS shouldn't be responsible for the direct intervention the lives of peoples of foreign countries. We, as a nation, have been chastised for that, and rightfully so. In the last 20-50years, we have interfered with the ruling of other governments. That was a mistake that I think we should learn from. I'm not saying that we should go all the way back to isolationism, but stepping back from being ether the world police or the worlds superstar should be considered.

The US is broke (both financially and as a "spiritual body" - if a country can be called that) President Obama would do better to stay stateside for a bit and fix things here. One could argue that that is what he is doing by going to other countries and begging for money, credit, ect... but the other option that he has is staying here and working on the relationships with his citizens. Yes, there might be some official meetings and conferences... but some of his visits look more like showboating on the taxpayers dime ... when we don't have the dimes to throw around looks a bit silly. It's not a world popularity contest. He has a job. I just wish that I could trust that he is doing that.

I see what you are saying but as you pointed out the US has directly setpped into the lives of millions outside its borders and still is. Unfortunatly these things don't go away over night. The UK is paying its debt of responsibility to what used to be our empire and is now the Commonwealth countries. The US may not have had a Empire of soverinty so much as economy but the debt of responsibility is just the same.
Also if you think things are bad in the US now imagine just how much worse they would be if countries started to off load their reserves of US dollars onto the open market. The US is dependent on the good will of other countries just as much as they are on the US. He may not be at home all the time but good foriegn relations are esential to both the security and proserity of the citizens of the USA.
