warpedskydiver 0 #1 April 26, 2009 They are great for starting bonfires. Burning brush away. Torching shitty looking abandoned trailers. Using them to toast marshmallows Burning out ground hog burrows. any other good ideas?
warpedskydiver 0 #2 April 26, 2009 I have a nice design for one, using two old stainless fire extinguishers and a Nitrogen tank. Going to use braided steel hose and ballcocks for easy and safe operation. Need to find a trigger to use and a good ignition source. Maybe a salvaged stun gun. I am thinking about ways to extend the range such as removing turbulence from the fuel stream for a more efficient and consistent flow. (similar to those fancy water fountain nozzles)

warpedskydiver 0 #4 April 27, 2009 I was thinking about that, i just need to make sure it is hot enough. I am going to use Napalm B and for those who are green, be reassured I will be recycling Styrofoam peanuts (Polystyrene) My goal is to make one with a range of over 100yds. Nice, napalm flamethrower makes a lat move to napalm bomb... 100yds... dude, why not just make an oxygen propelled projectile with a napalm payload? That should easily cover 100yds and burn on impact (add igniters).
warpedskydiver 0 #14 April 27, 2009 Incinerating the operator is not the intention. That is why nitrogen is the propellant. Oxygen can lead to a person being immolated. You know it, so why do you even bother saying it?
billvon 2,990 #15 April 27, 2009 >Maybe you have, but you will not catch me holding on to that. Fair enough. For sheer coolness factor, a hydrogen/oxygen torch is hard to beat though. Blue flame, lots of heat, steam as exhaust.

Arson or State law. They are illegal in CA they have laws against fire.
hypsin 0 #20 April 27, 2009 QuoteIn the United States, private ownership of a flamethrower is not restricted by federal law, but is restricted in some of its states, such as California, by state laws (cf. California Health and Welfare Codes 12750-12761, Flamethrowing Devices) [13] In California, unlicensed possession of a flame-throwing device — statutorily defined as "any non-stationary and transportable device designed or intended to emit or propel a burning stream of combustible or flammable liquid a distance of at least 10 feet" H&W 12750 (a) — is a misdemeanor punishable with a county jail term not exceeding one year OR with a fine not exceeding $10,000 (CA H&W 12761). Licenses to use flamethrowers are issued by the State Fire Marshal, and he or she may use any criteria for issuing or not issuing that license that he deems fit, but must publish those criteria in the California Code of Regulations, Title 11, Section 970 et seq So if I am passing through Cali and my bike shoots flames under 10 feet I should be good. I can live with that.
billvon 2,990 #21 April 27, 2009 >Oxygen can lead to a person being immolated. If you are not careful, indeed it can. So can napalm. And you are even more likely to be immolated (or immolate someone else) if you try to build a flamethrower that will reach 100 feet (which will require on the order of 60psi of pressure in a pressure fed system) and then use it to incinerate abandoned trailers. Your sudden safety-nazi approach is pretty funny based on your stated purposes.

warpedskydiver 0 #23 April 27, 2009 180lbs of pressure will do nicely and can be used safely. As for burning people you are the only one that seemed to endorse that or encourage it to happen.
