What do you think of Glenn Beck?

Recommended Posts

I think he is a D-bag. I like a lot of his Op-eds, but the guy is a douche, the fake crying while fearing for his country did it for me.

Fiscally conservative and socially fabulous,

He is too hyper, repetitive, gets very boring to listen for very long.
People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

I've only read a couple of his articles that got re-printed elsewhere. I'm not at all familiar with anything else he does (in fact, I can't recall if he has a radio or television show). The articles I read seemed ok to me, although a bit strident, and too heavy on the christianity for my taste (but then, I'm an atheist).

That's pretty much how I feel, esp. about the hyper thing.. Talking about his on-air stuff here - have not read his writings.

I think he's a disingenuous clown that has little stunts to try to jack up his ratings. I also think he's dangerous because there are people that follow him without thinking about what he's actually saying. Such is the power of tv.

Yep. And Malkin, and Limbaugh, and Colbert, and the rest who make money by entertaining people. Whatever pays the bills.

Although you might wanna give Colbert a free pass this week since he's on a USO tour in Iraq entertaining the troops.

Even if it's self promotion, he is bringing some joy into their lives.

Yep, only difference is that Olbermann hasn't tried to get people to pointlessly "teabag" anyone yet and doesn't try to foist his religious views on folks, but you're basically correct.

I live in the Tampa Bay area of FL. Glenn Beck got his big break while working for News Radio 970 in Tampa. My first awareness of his style was his attack on a local home owners association for suing a resident member for a tree house in the back yard. As I recall, he garnered enough public support to make the HOA back down to at least some sort of compromise.

I like him because he is entertaining, his number one job; he is a recovering alcoholic, so if feel a kinship; he discusses his bipolar disorder, providing hope for others; he gives recognition to God's grace. Finally, he took himself from the depths of a bad situation and climbed the ladder of success. He is a good role model to many that are in chemical dependency programs. His diagnoses are common; his good fortune is inspiring.

Oh, and I believe his is on target.

Chew the meat and spit out the bones.

I'm not a big fan of his beliefs, but I do like that he outwardly says that he is an opinionist and an entertainer, NOT a journalist.

You could say the same thing about most of FOX NEWS.:P

Never met the guy - from the thread I can assume a radio or tv personality/pundit?

the only question I could answer then is "what do you think of Glenn Beck's show?"

but I haven't listened or watched it

You're speaking of conservatives sending tea bags to their representatives in Congress as a sign of protest, yes?

You seem to have some sort of problem with that. I thought Hillary said that "dissent is patriotic" - or is that only when a Republican is in the White House?

If that is, in fact, not what you mean, you're going to have to enlighten me - no youtube or other streaming media, please, as I can't access it from over here.

Yes. The meaningless, feel good gesture without any actual ideas to back it up.

As far as I can tell, the only thing the tea bag gesture did was give a slight bump to Lipton. Other than that, it had nor suggested anything meaningful. They might as well of just stood around singing Kumbaya. While "fun" it doesn't actually do anything.

For varying values of "actual ideas" (that liberals agree with), evidently.
Not that you're in ANY way partisan against conservatives, of course.

Wow :S World to Quade! I seem to remember a couple of other instences of the people standing up against the govt. Just cause our ignorant govt. didnt change there policys that day doesnt mean they didnt hear us or that they wont hear us again. Did you ever think of the fact that jsut becasue it didnt change anything doesnt mean the cuase wasnt right, but maybe the govt. isnt listening to what the people want. Btw to the op i like beck and listen to him. He is one of the few that will go after the Big issues.
Nothing opens like a Deere!

Still doesn't change the fact he's an ASS.

As to my thoughs of Glenn Beck, he's a wealthy man.

Given the sterling examples of tolerance of others set by some of the 'well-travelled' liberals here in SC... I'll pass, thanks. ;)
