What do you think of Glenn Beck?

>Still doesn't change the fact he's an ASS.

So's Beck; indeed, he makes good money being an ass (like Colbert.)

Hey, why's everyone picking on Colbert? He may be an ass, but he's the funniest most entertaining ass on tv.

As far as Beck, I watch him occasionally out of curiousity as do I Maddow and Olbermann as well. He can have some good talking points and occasionally put out a very good level-headed show, and then the next one he'll fly off the handle and completely lose me with his weeping for my country bit or when he takes part of one persons quote and makes a whole show out of it about how the whole country loves Mao. Might be the bipolar disorder though.

Interested in all opinions.

I am also a conservative. However, I mistrust anyone that cries "Fascist" every day.

Hi Guy -05,
Can you say,"I remember when?"....the "N-E-W-S" came on TV at 6PM and the Commentator read news strips from AP off the teletype?? Not anymore man!! 24 hr news, wx, sports, op-ed's you-name-it and in there somewhere is "Glenn Beck!!" Same goes today as once "I Remember!" hearing about John Cameron Swaze and Huntly Brinkly,"Their first job is to sell toothpaste!!"

when I was 20 or so, I enjoyed morning radio with DJ's always fucking yelling and all that bull that they do.

Now it gives me a headache.

Glenn Beck gives me a headache in exactly the same way. I try to listen but there is so much extremism and bullshit, that it cannot in any way be called journalism, or even news.

great entertainment I am sure, if you can handle the headache - I cannot.

Glenn Beck.... Don't like him.

But then again I don't like any of the shows with the talking heads to include Olberman, Rachel Maddow, Rush...ect. Heck I don't like Oprah's show, nor the Tonight Show for that matter. I don't need anyone from ANY party yelling at me.

It also sent a message that there is a group of people that do not agree with what is going on. While it might not be tied to a single issue, that may make it MORE meaningful.

And no, I didn't send a tea bag to anyone.... I also don't like tea.

What do you think of Glenn Beck?

I simply don't. The people to whom his message resonates are already the choir to whom he's preaching, so it makes no difference. Everyone else - even swing-voting moderates - finds him so shrill or ridiculous that the chance he'd ever influence their thinking are slim to none; so it makes no difference. The only people who really give a shit about him are the pop-culturists; and in that regard, he's no different than Jon & Kate.

Ron, just curious and it's not a dig or slam or anything, like I said, just curious, but have you ever heard of a movie titled; "A Face in the Crowd"? It's a story about a guy that sort of "discovers" the powerful influence of radio and television. He turns into a sort of monster and comes to believe he's far more important than he really is. What's interesting is this was made in the mid-1950s. Really sort of visionary in terms of how some of the talking heads see themselves today. I put Glenn Beck into that group.

I've wondered whether the 1976 movie "Network" drew from that script. Parallels there, too. I'm just waiting for Beck to extrude his knob through the window and holler, "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore!"

Undoubtedly. It's all a matter of perspective though. I think the major difference is that Glenn Beck may see himself as Howard Beale, when I think in reality he's Lonesome Rhodes.

Nope, and I would never take that as a dig or slam.

I agree and also put Olberman, Rachel Maddow, Rush...ect into that group. To be clear, I pretty much despise the lot of them no matter what party or agenda they push; I can't stand the yammering of any of them.

My Dad listens to Rush... Used to drive me crazy. The guy two offices down listens to Rush and I just can't stand to hear the guys voice. My Dad and I used to argue about how annoying Rush was... I never could understand why people listen to him.

But the same goes for any of them. One reason I get most of my news from the internet.

He is an absolute traitor to the country. He helps separate and polarize the people he says he cares for. Its all about the money as it is with many, and if he is an entertainment show he should try to entertain not act as if he is the news.

If he is an entertainer then his opinion should have as much merit as Paris Hiltons, unfortunately some actually look at him for information which he has none. Every time I have watched him he reminds me of the scumbag TV evangelist who work their bull shit on the weak minded.

Like him or not he is entertaining to some. I think it is a mistake to dismiss everything he brings up as I feel there are some really credible stories he brings out and he is willing to go deep on issues that the rest of the media will not. I think joining fox news has changed him. I listen sometimes and he will get on my nerves but other times like this morning he was going through the healthcare bill. I believe Glenn Back has actually read it all unlike many of those who "represent" us in congress.

he has read more of the bill than most in congress that will vote for it. that alone makes beck better to discuss or vote for the bill than congress.

I think he should get a divorce immediately from Tania and have the perfect affair with Ann Coulter. They can try to outshrill each other while trying to have sex.

MSNBC comes to mind. I hate any "news" who gives me their fucking opnion, and yes we have them on the left as well.
Give me the cold boring facts.
I used to really like the BBC until they had their balls removed as well.

I think most people in Congress do try to do their jobs, and are generally better informed than TV talking heads.

Beck makes his money telling people what they want to hear. If he can make money by TELLING people he's read the bill, then he will. If he can tell half-truths and make millions, he's not evil - he's a good businessman.

As for his audience? If they are entertained by him, good for them. If they really get their information on the healthcare debate from him, shame on them.

I have no issue if people take it as entertainment. That’s fine. But when you start talking about him as an information source (news) then he is no longer entertainment. So which is he?

If you are depending on him and relying on him more then others for info he is no longer just entertainment.

In order to get good information you need to have several sources and Beck is one source. Beck has, on several occasions, caused the white house problems with factual reports.
