rushmc 23 #1 June 16, 2009 headline on Drudge Tue Jun 16 2009 08:45:10 ET On the night of June 24, the media and government become one, when ABC turns its programming over to President Obama and White House officials to push government run health care -- a move that has ignited an ethical firestorm! Highlights on the agenda: ABCNEWS anchor Charlie Gibson will deliver WORLD NEWS from the Blue Room of the White House. The network plans a primetime special -- 'Prescription for America' -- originating from the East Room, exclude opposing voices on the debate. MORE Late Monday night, Republican National Committee Chief of Staff Ken McKay fired off a complaint to the head of ABCNEWS: Dear Mr. Westin: As the national debate on health care reform intensifies, I am deeply concerned and disappointed with ABC's astonishing decision to exclude opposing voices on this critical issue on June 24, 2009. Next Wednesday, ABC News will air a primetime health care reform “town hall” at the White House with President Barack Obama. In addition, according to an ABC News report, GOOD MORNING AMERICA, WORLD NEWS, NIGHTLINE and ABC’s web news “will all feature special programming on the president’s health care agenda.” This does not include the promotion, over the next 9 days, the president’s health care agenda will receive on ABC News programming. Today, the Republican National Committee requested an opportunity to add our Party's views to those of the President's to ensure that all sides of the health care reform debate are presented. Our request was rejected. I believe that the President should have the ability to speak directly to the America people. However, I find it outrageous that ABC would prohibit our Party's opposing thoughts and ideas from this national debate, which affects millions of ABC viewers. In the absence of opposition, I am concerned this event will become a glorified infomercial to promote the Democrat agenda. If that is the case, this primetime infomercial should be paid for out of the DNC coffers. President Obama does not hold a monopoly on health care reform ideas or on free airtime. The President has stated time and time again that he wants a bipartisan debate. Therefore, the Republican Party should be included in this primetime event, or the DNC should pay for your airtime. Respectfully, Ken McKay Republican National Committee Chief of Staff"America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." billvon 2,991 #3 June 16, 2009 NEWS FLASH: ABC NEWS GOVERNMENT TAKEOVER DELAYED BY 2 WEEKS Tue Jun 16 2009 08:45:11 ET Associated Press WASHINGTON, DC - The White House today announced a short delay in their takeover of ABC News due to scheduling conflicts, and said that the takeover would resume in two weeks. "We had planned to use the Blue Room for the event, but realized it will be full of guns after our Gun Grab on Wednesday," said Steve Piker, spokesman for President Obama. "After we grab all the guns and ammo from the law abiding citizens of the US we'll need the storage space." Originally, the network had planned a primetime special over health care from the East Room, but Obama spokespeople said that would be needed for the new Youth Indoctrination Programs. "We have the homosexuality and welfare instructors all lined up," said Piker, "and we can't just cancel them at a moment's notice." Piker suggested that once the first crop of 5 to 8 year old children had been indoctrinated, they would restart the takeover of ABC news, followed by the takeover of the other mainstream news sources, the Internet and Wal-Mart. It is already quite clear that you (one who bitched as much as anybody about executive power grab of the Bush admin) have the Obama rose colored glasses on and he can do no wrong. We have never in the history of this country seen the agressive grab by a governement of much in the private sector. Glad your hero is so damned pure in your mind. ErricoMalatesta 0 #5 June 16, 2009 I'm still really amused by the polarising character and general lack of understanding you guys display towards your own society. Oh no! A left wing liberal democratic outrage! Hijacking the TV like a Marxist! If the US undergoes a health care reform, in whatever shape it may take, you can rest assured both sides of US business will be happy with it.

lawrocket 3 #11 June 16, 2009 My perception of the press with the Bush Admin was that coverage of him was negative. This is a good thing. When the POTUS and Congress were of the same party in 2001-2006, the press maintained its obligation to be the voice of analysis and criticism. The fourth branch of government is itself a check and balance to keep the People informed. Now we have a press that I do not find to be critical (of course, I get mine from MSNBC). The press should be there for the exchange of ideas. ABC is now positioning itself as mouthpiece to the POTUS because it declines to present a contrary view. In doing so, it has moved frombeing a proponent of news to a proponent of propoganda. And Fox, of course, will be called a partisan shill because of it's challenge to ABC. NBC/MSNBC - what will it do? CBS? How will it respond? My wife is hotter than your wife.

All SUV's and pickup trucks with gun racks will be collected and melted down to make uncomfortable-but-efficient bicycles for everyone else. The media, like our government, seems to have a pendulum of involvement. A few years ago there was a feeling that with movies like Wag the Dog (or what was it called?) that the reporters were getting to be too much like rock stars and new policy tried to pull them back to the independent reporter.
