RonD1120 62 #77 July 1, 2009 QuoteNice try. This isn't about me; and although I'm not going to get sucked into a rebuttal, you clearly have no idea what I do. Actually, I believe you do really know, but are deliberately mischaracterizing it. You're back-handedly attacking others; you're shamelessly painting yourself as a meek victim; you're using logical sophistry, and you are most certainly insulting people's intelligence. You are not approaching this discussion honestly or respectably. I do the best I can with what I've got. BTW, have we jumped together or had a mutual client or clients? Sophistry certainly seems to go hand in hand with religion, along with a need to resort to emotional blackmail, an inability to understand the nature of evidence, shifting the definition words, pretty much every philosophical and psychological dirty trick in the book. I'm not sure whether that is a deliberate ploy or whether the religious really can't smell what they are shoveling. Either prospect makes religion a decidedly vulgar business. See: http://atheism.about.com/od/logicalflawsinreasoning/a/sophistry.htm According the above explanation, I am not guilty of sophistry because I base my position on Scripture found in the Holy Bible and consider Scripture absolute truth. Operation in the spiritual realm is by nature outside the bounds of rational thinking. It is irrational. The spiritual thinker is outside the bounds on accepted intelligence. This begs the question, why would someone desire to live in that realm? What is the payoff? Not money, not power, it makes no sense. Yet there are those who chose, as Scott Peck described in his book, The Road Less Traveled. that direction. That being said, I will no longer respond on this thread. I will post a new message when I receive the unction to do so from the Holy Spirit. Thanks to all who have taken the time to respond. You words stimulate me and give me prayerful direction Anyone may contact me back channel however.Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. I find it amusing how people object to being accused of using sophistry ... QuoteOperation in the spiritual realm is by nature outside the bounds of rational thinking. It is irrational. The spiritual thinker is outside the bounds on accepted intelligence. ... and then explain exactly why they need use sophistry. If you are aware that your arguments are outside the bounds of rational thinking, even if you believe them, yet you try to make the irrational appear rational then you are using sophistry. It is a very common tactic in religious discussions since it is one of the only ways the apologist can attempt to defend their position (the illogical position they hold often leaves no other defense possible). The tragedy is that it is seen as an acceptable method of plugging your views.
pirana 0 #83 July 1, 2009 QuoteWebster's New World Dictionary defines soul: an entity without material reality, regarded as the spiritual part of a person.... You can also find unicorn in Webster's. I'd also contend that the Self (or as you put it, the Soul) is grounded in the very material firing of synapses in the frontal lobes." . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley

Ask anyone who was ever flogged or racked or burned for heresy. Or any kid who's asked "But how's that possible?" in Sunday school, and gotten a smack in the mouth for his efforts. Never met anyone who had been flogged, racked or burned, but I got smacked a couple of times as a smart ass kid. Christianity has had its dark moments when people strayed away from God's word. The holocaust is a perfect example. In Rome, when the Germans rounded up one thousand Jews and shipped them to the death camps, the Vatican remained silent.Do your part for global warming: ban beans and hold all popcorn farts. makeithappen40 0 #89 July 2, 2009 Sounds alot like irrational authority. It also sounds alot like that irrational authority is forcing the belief as opposed to nurturing the belief. (Sort of like the nurturing the seed statements earlier)
