Spelling is a very good indicator of how much free time someone has to entertain themselves with this masturbatory exercise. People with lives and careers dash off a quick line or tow and then get back to their real day.

Oh my, what a poor explanation. :S Better, what a BS.

Best apprenticeship is all I can say on that. A good one opens more doors than you might imagine.

At least, that's my standard. Hey, and my (our) "real day" also includes best education for our kids, skydiving, hunting, travelling a lot etc. ....

Kallend and most of the ones that bitch about spelling and ridicule our Ideas and thoughts because of poor spelling are just making themselves look stupid. An idea or thought is not more or less important because of spelling. Kallend most likely could not do my job but I don't ridicule him because he can't do it. My job does not consist of writing letters or papers that need to be acurate in spelling, but his does. but that doesn't make me any more or less than Kallend, only that he spells better. Bitching about spelling is only another liberal way to try to minimize other people and make themselves feel better.

I guess if the positions they represented were strong enough they wouldn't need diversions like the spelling thing to try to minimize other people to make their positions look stronger.

Right. But this is a forum where the written word is the only way that ideas can be expressed. Screwing up those words indicates that the poster has not put much thought or effort into that idea.

I can remember when education used to be a conservative value. Now it makes people "liberal elitists." I almost get the impression that the ideal modern conservative is a nearly illiterate, uneducated heckler who "speaks from the heart" instead of composing coherent opinions.

Post whatever opinions you like here, spelled however you like. However, it would be a bit foolish to expect people to treat your opinions with more respect than you yourself gave them when you were composing them.

I prefer good spelling and grammar; it shows some attention to the post. Often times the poorest spelling is in some one-sentence drive-by comment that is supposed to be taken for wit.

If there's content, it doesn't matter so much what the presentation is. But if the presentation is so bad that it hides the content, or makes it hard to understand, then it's not surprising people discount it.

It takes one person a little longer to write it understandably in the first place. It takes everyone working longer to figure out WTF he was trying to say. Which is more efficient?

Good point, and indeed drunken posting has a long history here on DZ.com (as evidenced by the occasional PM I get asking "could you delete that post I made? I was really drunk . . . .")

Poll: Americans Overwhelmingly Oppose Obamacare on Key Points

Monday, September 14, 2009 7:02 PM

By: Jim Meyers Article Font Size

In the wake of President Barack Obama's recent address to Congress on healthcare, a new poll reveals he may not have the support of most Americans on his reform plans.

The Zogby International/O'Leary Report survey of more than 4,200 likely voters found that a large majority oppose key provisions of Obama and the Democrats' healthcare reform proposals, including plans to extend health insurance to as many as 50 million uninsured Americans and to incorporate a form of healthcare rationing in the reforms.

Zogby International and The O'Leary Report asked respondents several questions relating to the healthcare reform issue. Some results:

# Asked if they agree or disagree that the federal government should require all Americans to purchase health insurance or face a fine — a provision favored by Democrats — 70.2 percent said they disagree, and only 18.5 percent agree. The rest are not sure.

# A resounding 75 percent of respondents said that taxes should not be raised to fund a government-run health insurance program for Americans who do not have health insurance.

# The pollsters stated: "President Obama is promoting a new government agency called the 'Independent Medicare Advisory Council,' and some people believe this agency should use its powers to deny payment for procedures it deems unnecessary or futile."

Critics say such power would interfere with the doctor-patient relationship, the pollsters noted, and many consider it a form of healthcare rationing. Nearly 59 percent said they oppose the creation of the council, and just 30.6 percent support it.

# Some Republicans have called for provisions allowing Americans to purchase health insurance from providers outside their state as an alternative to Obama's proposed government-supported "public option" insurance plan. Respondents said they favor such provisions by an overwhelming margin, 82.8 percent to 6.9 percent.

Also, 78.5 percent of those polled believe tort reform is needed to lower the cost of medical malpractice insurance, an issue that Obama has not seriously addressed. And 77.3 percent oppose plans to tax employer-provided healthcare benefits.

"Tort reform and permitting Americans to purchase health insurance across state lines have near universal appeal with voters," said Brad O'Leary, a best-selling author and publisher of The O'Leary Report.

"New taxes, on the other hand, are almost universally opposed."

Poll Finds Most Doctors Support Public Option

by Joseph Shapiro

September 14, 2009

Majority Of Physicians Want Public And Private Insurance Options

Among all the players in the health care debate, doctors may be the least understood about where they stand on some of the key issues around changing the health care system. Now, a new survey finds some surprising results: A large majority of doctors say there should be a public option.

When polled, "nearly three-quarters of physicians supported some form of a public option, either alone or in combination with private insurance options," says Dr. Salomeh Keyhani. She and Dr. Alex Federman, both internists and researchers at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, conducted a random survey, by mail and by phone, of 2,130 doctors. They surveyed them from June right up to early September.

Most doctors — 63 percent — say they favor giving patients a choice that would include both public and private insurance. That's the position of President Obama and of many congressional Democrats. In addition, another 10 percent of doctors say they favor a public option only; they'd like to see a single-payer health care system. Together, the two groups add up to 73 percent.

When the American public is polled, anywhere from 50 to 70 percent favor a public option. So that means that when compared to their patients, doctors are bigger supporters of a public option.
===========================
Reform Opposition Is High but Easing

President Obama continues to face significant public resistance to his drive to initiate far-reaching changes to the country's health-care system, with widespread skepticism about central tenets of his plan, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

But after a summer of angry debate and protests, opposition to the effort has eased somewhat, and there appears to be potential for further softening among critics if Congress abandons the idea of a government-sponsored health insurance option, a proposal that has become a flash point in the debate. The gap in passion, which had shown greater intensity among opponents of the plan, has also begun to close, with supporters increasingly energized and more now seeing reform as possible without people being forced to give up their current coverage.

. . . .

The public also divides about evenly -- 51 percent in favor, 47 percent against -- on the question of whether people should be required to have health insurance, a central element of the plans under consideration.

But it is the public option that has become the major point of contention, with support for the government creation of an insurance plan that would compete with private insurers stabilizing in the survey after dipping last month. Now, 55 percent say they like the idea, but the notion continues to attract intense objection: If that single provision were removed, opposition to the overall package drops by six percentage points, according to the poll.

Without the public option, 50 percent back the rest of the proposed changes; a still sizable 42 percent are opposed. Independents divide 45-45 on a package without the government-sponsored insurance option, while they are largely negative on the entire set of proposals (40 percent support and 52 percent oppose).

I don't care who you are, left or right, black or white, etc, if your only come back in a debate or discussion is a spelling mistake, you lose.

Spelling is a very good indicator of how much attention to detail a person pays. A repeated pattern of poor spelling is a good indicator of sloppy thinking and carelessness.

So the reverse of that would be someone that spells really good should have a very good thought out opinion? So much for that[:/]

Do you have a source for that? I'd love to see the poll data.

The poll I saw on Sermo had very different results.

Its the Axlerod poll. Did you hear his comments on the talking heads shows this week end? He is saying that the march in DC is not representative of the majority. Then they lie about the numbers there. Which ABC (in blogs and back pages) is now reporting to be 1.5 million or more. And then there are the stories of thousands who could not get into Washington because to the traffic jams.

Bill posted that tripe because, as you told me, it is the greenies job to stirr the pot[:/]

And then there are the folks who can't tell an adjective from an adverb. They should be forced to learn English before being allowed to post.;)
