Why Are Blacks So Frequently the Subject of Glenn Beck's Ridicule and Criticism?

Another of my African-American colleagues, Harry Pickens, recently shared with me his compelling assessment of how this dynamic is playing out currently in America.

He notes that most Americans, until quite recently, grew up within a culture that assigned each of us our place in a social hierarchy that placed men over women, whites over people of color, rich people over poor people, and humans over nature. Knowing one's place offered a certain sense of stability and security even for those on the bottom.

Unless one has a secure sense of identity independent of these categories, the breakdown of the hierarchy can introduce extreme uncertainty that is both confusing and threatening, even in times of economic prosperity. The civil rights, women's, and environmental movements all challenged the hierarchy and threatened the established system of authority and identity.

Then came the ultimate shock-a black president whose intelligence, poise, talent, and charisma set him apart even from most of America's former presidents. With him came the strong, intelligent, beautiful, and charming Michelle, who has the potential, like Hillary Clinton, to be a future presidential candidate in her own right. Horror of horrors. The only thing that might present a greater threat to the old social order than a black male president from a modest class background is the specter of a black female president. For some it has been a shock too great to bear.

I guess it is just an amazing coincidence that so much of his criticism is towards black people.

A lot of black liberals are saying and doing things very deserving of criticism and ridicule. Do you think that is possible?
People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

So in other words, if he were only to critizice blacks (not that he is -- this is just a strawman), it wouldn't be racist as long as he didn't say they were black?

No, he could be hiding it... but to claim that he criticizes people who are black BECAUSE they are black is not supported.

Beck seems to criticize anyone he disagrees with. I don't watch his (or anyones show) but I have seen him go off on Pelosi and Reid and last I checked they were not black.

Cries of racism are often a tool for the weak who have nothing else to fall back on.... I think this is the case here as well.

Intelligence: Sure, no argument there

Poise: Sure, he's got that

Talent: At what? What are his accomplishments? Making speeches? He's made more of them since he's been pres than he has days in office, so I guess that is a talent. Being a community organizer, that now criticizes organizing of communities when they don't like his plans? His time in the Senate, that was very short and without significant contribution, besides the most liberal voting record of the bunch, so I'll give him that he talented at being a liberal.

Charisma: That is not working so well for him anymore. Broken promises, lies, doing so much just as Bush was doing, too many speeches saying the same thing...he just doesn't have the star power he had before, and he certainly did have it before.

Your criteria seems to require that he admit to criticizing people for their skin color.

No, but it does require you to bring more than accusations.

>How dare you!

HOW DARE YOU MAKE FUN OF AN ENTERTAINER! Sure, call the president of the USA a racist bigot; that's fine. Heck, stand up during a speech and scream at him; that makes you a hero. Call his supporters assholes and bigots. But do not DARE to insult an ENTERTAINER on the TV!

Dude, if you are serious about your outrage, you are letting a television entertainer play way too much of a role in your life. Think for yourself; Glenn Beck (or Rachel Maddow, or Rush Limbaugh, or FOX or CNN) is a poor substitute for independent thought.

If, OTOH, it's the usual faux outrage so prevalent around here, I give it an 8 out of 10. Great use of anger; you can almost feel the spittle flying.

If I say: "The emperor sucks the big one everyday", will that make me a racist? If I speak ill of ACORN, J. Jackson, A. Sharton, or V. Johnson everyday, will that make me a racist? I don't think so. I have been around too many black Americans who work hard and want their children to take advantage of the great opportunities this country has to offer. If I were a racist, do you think I would trust a black man to do an annual inspection on my aircraft (I did it)? If you don't get this, you need to spend time in the US. The other race baiters need to get out too. I really wonder how many of you actually spent time around blacks. Anybody ever serve with blacks in the military? Anybody ever depend on blacks in a combat environment? I did, and like white troops, they weren't all perfect. Does that make me a racist. Dream Dancer, if you don't get this, maybe you should try pole dancing.

I hope someday we reach a point where "trusting a black man" is not something we make special note of. (Not saying you're racist, but old habits die hard.)

Then stop the race baiting. There is no special note here; I trusted the man regardless of his color. Just what old habits did I have? Racists are people who cannot overcome their prejudices, Normal people overcome their prejudices. You mistake prejudice for any negative observation of people of color. Black or white fuckups should be called out.

I hope someday we reach a point where people don't feel the need to continue to point out when others use race in an example as a way to try to claim the person is racist.

sometimes people have to use these examples when talking to true racists, because they are trying to get through to them on their terms

Check out the "thermate, WTC collapses" thread. Billvon was dishing out what I thought was a rather elegant asswhuppin and in the process mentioned having maybe had some "thermate" slipped into his wheaties.
Thus I observed that Billvon is now a combustible duck.
This brought on worries from others about web page maintenance, and philosophical musings from myself about what exactly defines a duck, anyway and is it still a duck if its combustible? Shortly thereafter the thread died, either because the idiots and not-idiots got sick of beating on each other, ran out of rocks or simply lost interest in the fight.
I was disappointed. And last time I looked, Rasmack hadn't updated the page yet, either. I sense a conspiracy here. "The system" doesn't want it known that ducks can be combustible. These things could be going off in backyards all over the world and nobodys even figured out how to force people to pay a tax or need a license for that shit yet! Won't somebody think of the children?

You can't allow old people with alzheimers to be in posession of potentially combustible bird life, its bad for the environment. Anybody in favor of allowing this to continue is a racist trying to poison black neighborhoods with metal oxide combustion byproducts, overcooked avian science professor parts as well as blood and potentially infectious bodily fluids.

Then you got to worry about mass distributing biohazard cleanup and decon kits to the public, and whos gonna pay for all this, and are you an irresponsible parent if you let your kid ride a bike or walk to school on a one-way street without one of those kits handy, or at least one of those masks the Asians became fond of wearing in public right about the time the bird flu hit. Coincidence? I think not.
Hell, the release of steam alone qualifies him as a WMD.

Fixed that for you - you might want to get those blinders fixed before you trip over your own feet again. Oh, and go see the doc about that case of "white guilt" you have - you're just about terminal.
