Medvedev made the comments on state TV just hours after President Barack Obama announced he was shelving the project, which has been a major irritant in U.S. relations with Russia. He said he and Obama had discussed the issue of missile proliferation in their meetings earlier this year in London and Moscow and had agreed to work together to reduce that risk. "The announcement made today in Washington shows that the conditions for such work are not bad," he said. "We appreciate this responsible move by the U.S. president toward realizing our agreement," he said. "I am prepared to continue the dialogue." Russia has strenuously objected to the plan to base the missile system in Poland and the Czech Republic, fearing it would compromise Russia's strategic nuclear capabilities. "We together will work out effective measures regarding the risks of missile proliferation _ measures, which will take into consideration the interests and concerns of all sides and guarantee equal security to all states in Europe," Medvedev said. © 2009 Associated Press. SpeedRacer 1 #8 September 18, 2009 I am glad he is making friends too. I for one am not afraid of Russia. Russia and the USA have common enemies. Here we have an opportunity to save some $$ by not maintaining YET ANOTHER expensive foreign military base. If it improves relations with Russia, that is an added BONUS. We have a lot in common with Russia, and we should work together. Some people may still be living in the Cold War, but the fact is that the real threat comes from fucked-up fanatical terrorist organizations, many of them in countries along Russia's southwestern border. SpeedRacer 1 #10 September 18, 2009 Anyway, we don't need some expensive missile base in Eastern Europe, Sarah Palin can keep an eye on Russia from her backyard. And if the Russkis step out of line, Sarah will shoot them from her helicopter. Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------

lawrocket 3 #13 September 18, 2009 I domt have a particular problem with this. Personally, I'd like to, if anything, have Russia join up with it. Surround Iran. Afghanistan. Call Dr. Strangelove. He'll tell you: "Eet ees not onary possible. Eet ees essential." My wife is hotter than your wife.
