Why Do You , Love, Agree With, Admire, Believe in Obama

Just curious...I haven't found a reason yet, he is surrounded my criminals, he is ashamed of his country , (If we are his country) ;) He feels tthe need to Apoligize for us being a great nation, he has put our children's children in Debt in less than 9 months, that they will never pay off... I Could go on, BUT the point of this thread is to find out anything "Good" about him!

I like him because he is new, and less likely to be in the pockets of some multinational corporation. He campaigned on 'change' and that's why I voted for him. We had a choice between Mr. McCant (who has been in politics on the hill for 40 years) and Obama. The choice was easy for me.

Just cause I voted for him and I hope he is successful doesn't mean I want to perform fellatio on him. Its the other side that is consumed by bitterness and hatred for him. I think the majority of dems and moderates don't have such strong feelings, they just want reasonable government by somebody who will respect the constitution, restore the rule of law, and fix Americas foreign relations problems.

That's beccause you're a conservative American; most of the rest of the world loves him and has shown by ranking us quite a bit more friendly in teh GPI: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Peace_Index

97 to 83 in one year.

And the Nobel Peace Prize was in anticipation of what was to come. So perhaps the worlds 2% of conservative Americans don't get it, but most of the other 98% do. When you are 2% and you find virtually everyone against you, you should rethink your position.

he is surrounded my criminals

Yes but they sit on the right side of the aisle.

Quote

he is ashamed of his country

I can't say he is, but I can say I was before his election.

Quote

He feels tthe need to Apoligize for us being a great nation

No, he apologizes for the grosss misdeads of a nation that used to be great and is working to repair them.

Quote

he has put our children's children in Debt in less than 9 months,

So the 11.5T as he took office wasn't an issue, but the 800B stimulus and auto bailout is? Considering the recession is 0% his fault, the recovery is 100% his problem, yet he has put us in debt somehow?????:S

Quote

that they will never pay off...

We've been a debtor nation before we were a nation and we have never paid it off, so what's your relevant point?

1) He isn't Bush

2) He isn't a Republican

3) He wants HC for all and to make existing policies less restrictive and more comprehensive / less expensive

4) He wants there to be less wealth disparity

5) Did Isay he isn't Bush or a Republican?

>Not unlike people who had the same attitude towards W?

Perhaps - although IIRC, no one was discussing armed insurrections to depose Bush, and I cannot recall any liberal shooting sprees out of fear of what Bush would do. The level of paranoia seems a _lot_ higher.

I wonder how much hatred for Obama is because he is young and black? Honestly, I can't think of a real reason for such bitterness and anger towards him except that the fringe are a bunch of clansmen.

Yeah, the right is talking about shooting sprees and revolution, but Obama's election was the fairest in my adult life, since Bush and his croneys rigged the last two, and I wasn't into politics before that.

So whats the bitterness for? The guy won, fair and square. By ten million votes! He hasn't even been in office a year, and he inherited a country that was practically on the verge of collapse, yet the narrowminded right think that he should have been able to put us on the right track in a few weeks, solve unemployment etc.

America is a cruise ship, not a bass boat. It doesn't turn on a dime folks... Be patient!

Agreed. I live in Houston, which is in the state that is ground zero for a lot of the tin foil hat wearing ass hats, and I was at a local restaurant last week and there was a group of nicely dressed older men who were obviously from Texas born and bred. (belt buckle, boots, and jeans.) They sat around nonchalantly talking about their guns and which one they would use out of their collection to shoot Obama with if he were standing right in front of them. My jaw hit the floor. It took me all of my might to not say anything, but I already know you can't argue with stupid, so whats the point? I was not a fan of Bush. I know lots of people who passionately were not fans of Bush, but never in my life did I ever hear people or hear of people having conversations such as the one that I was witness to. So Bill is exactly right, the level of hate and paranoia is MUCH higher and it started before this guy even took office.

As for specific reasons why I voted for him and why I am still giving him a chance to be a great leader-- I wanted us to get out of Iraq, which he is doing. I wanted us to go after the agressors responsible for 9/11, which he is trying to do. I wanted to see human rights faught for on all levels including the rights for gays and lesbians, which he is slowly getting to (starting with the passing of that bill in congress yesterday to extend hate crimes to GLBT's). I wanted to see more done for the middle class, which so far he has done a lot more than Bush and proposes things that can benefit the middle class a lot more than Bush. I wanted something done with Healthcare, which he is doing. I want to see something done with education (student loans, scholarships, ect.), which he has already touched on and is continuing to work on. I wanted somebody who would value the separation of church and state better than Bush did and not let religion influence issues like a woman's right to choose.

Has he done everything he's promised so far? No. Is it fair to expect all of these things right away? Hell no. That man inherited an absolute mess when he took office. I understand he needs time. So, in my book he gets a fair shot and when the time comes to say, "OK...where's all this change?" well, then I'll definitely say it, but that time is not now and it won't be any time soon.
Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

Better than Bush did? Bush didn't, he went the other way, his first veto in his 1st 5 1/2 years was that of stem cell research that his congress pushed thru and he vetoed. Bush wanted the total culmination of church / state.

While I think some of it is, the majority is not. It's because he's a democrat, and most of the people in our country can no longer see beyond such labels.

Ditto, or agendas. If it were Hillary there would be the same hatred and some would call it sexist.

Not in love with him but he is my democratically elected president who has been in office for less then a year.

It seems you like many others are suffering from a selective memory syndrome.

I don’t see the point of bending truths to make you feel better about your view.

You do remember that he inherited the huge colossal fuck up of the economy right?

You do remember that the first bail out was done with out any oversight under the pervious administration right?

Two wars thats cost how much so far? Not to mention howmany lives were lost in Iraq for a war that was started for a reason that simply did not exist.

As for apologizing for our country: If you think the United State or for that fact any country is perfect in the world, or that we have never made any mistakes that we should apologize for you are simply INSANE.

Disagree with his philosophy, disagree with what he stand for whatever, but please at least try to remember where the country was when Bush took over and what he handed over to Obama.

I can’t possibly understand how so many on the right seem to forget that. Its as if people are trying to change history to make themselves feel better.

One thing i do like about him a lot is that he is smart. I want a smart leader.

You know i have heard some good arguments from some really smart guys on the right. I can see what they don't like about him, and in some cases i agree.

But to forget that the country by all accounts was in the worst shape it has been in 70 years or so when Obama took over is dishonest.

Sorry.. the way I wrote that came out wrong. I meant that Bush wanted religion in as much as possible. He had zero regard for separation of church and state and if it were up to him christianity would have been incorporated in everything. I definitely did not like that.

Sorry... that came out a little backwards in my original reply.

Interesting thread but I bet it'll be a short one. I'm not surprised to see the thread started out the way it has; attacking Obama's opponents. Seems right inline with the Obama Administration's strategy.

Apparently I am unable to either read or count this afternoon.

“attacking Obama's opponents”?

Compare that with how Darius began his parallel post?

Approximately. It seems to be getting worse, so right now it's probably mostly republicans. But the next time the tables are turned, the democrats will probably be just as bad.

Mmmm, 80% of the populace are just partisan hacks. it's a great time to be......elsewhere

At least it's a lower total than on this forum :)

I was referring to the replies. Not the OP. :P

edited to add: In fact I completely disregarded the OP becuase it seemed the same old conservative rhetoric. Probably set the tone for the thread. Perhaps we need a redux.
