davjohns 1 #26 November 5, 2009 I have taught multiple martial arts for years. I am in great physical condition. I usually carry a gun and almost always a knife. I find that the way I carry myself dissuades people from approaching me with ill intent. So, I'm not sure the situation would ever present itself. Having said that, I agree that it would depend on the situation. As to use of deadly force, my advice has always been to memorize the following line for the police and other authorities regardless of the situation: "It's all a bit much right now. I need some time to put it all together. I'm sure I'll be able to describe it all clearly after I talk to my lawyer."I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Misternatural 0 #28 November 5, 2009 Unfortunately for Nikita, he is a bouncer as far as I know, so he has to actually deal with this potential scenario. I have taken martial arts training for a number of years but outside of the physical benefits I stopped because I realized that unless a person trains specifically and repetitively for a wide spectrum of scenarios and your moves are executed perfectly- you are dealing with an unpredictable and a non cooperative enemy and you are likely to fail- unless you are interested only in hero points- it's a waste of effort. only if I had an equal or greater weapon in hand and I was sufficiently motivated, was in a troublesome mood, or had no choice but to be killed would I attempt any move on the perp. I ask myself sometimes how skydiving influences the decision making process and I think that it gives us an edge over the wuffo in that we have more of a skewed sense of consequences. in other words a skydiver psychologically is more apt to go to the edge and risk action.Beware of the collateralizing and monetization of your desires. BillyVance 34 #29 November 5, 2009 I wouldn't even try, unless I was as good as Bruce Lee or Chuck Norris, but then again, what they did was Hollywood, not real life. I should get a fake wallet though, cram it with plenty of filler cards that are worthless, and maybe some fake money that looks real enough at a quick glance. Hypothetically - if a person is pointing a gun directly at you at close range, and he gets sprayed with pepper spray, would that necessarily prevent him from (even blindly) squeezing the trigger? I am still a bouncer. I'm also 5'8ish and 190...not your typical bouncer stature. But, I've never been in a serious fight at my job. Partly because it's a live music bar and not a place where people go to start fights for idiotic reasons. Partly because any potential altercation I've been in I've always broken up with words and not my fists. The worst it got is jumping between two guys that were wailing at each other, stepping in front of a much bigger guy who slapped a girl and escorting him out, and a few other similar situation. Of course, for a 3 year stint when i wasn't working there, two of the bouncers were acting like assholes and got stabbed for their efforts. I'm not saying that anyone deserves to get stabbed, but for their idiotic actions, they deserved at least a smack in the face; unfortunately they got stabbed (but lived to tell about it.) And finally, because I'm a small guy, most bigger guys think a. he's too small i don't want to embarrass him or b. he's small but he must know some shit, i better leave him alone. Back to the weapon topic...if my life was in danger, and I was sure of that 100%, I would definitely try to disarm them or go down trying, especially if it meant defending my loved ones. But...is it always 100% guarantee that anyone who pulls a weapon on you WILL use it once they get what they want? The person yelling obscenities and waving their gun at you might slink away into the night once they get your wallet; the quiet psycho might just shoot/stab you and take anything they want. So, can you be 100% sure that their weapon will be used against you, and if so, should you try to disarm them? I say you can never be sure...

aresye 0 #48 November 12, 2009 If anybody likes the sheepdog concept, and is an active or aspiring sheepdog, the YouTube user "nutnfancy" has tons of videos for gear reviews, concealed weapons, knives, employment tactics, mass chaos/anarchy situations and what kind of gear to have, first aid, wilderness survival, etc. He's a firm believer in the sheepdog concept, both regarding the combat side, and non-combat side of scenarios. The videos are long, but he does a good job.Skydiving: You either learn from other's mistakes, or they'll learn from yours.

That might be true of a sane/rational individual.. Unfortunately, you can't be sure that the person you're dealing with isn't a schizo or on some serious mind-altering drugs.. The fact is that you can reasonably expect normal people to behave a certain way, but you cannot at all predict what a lunatic will do.. I didn't fully appreciate this fact until I moved to London.. You just never know what to expect from the crazies.. I've often thought that I'm feisty and would instinctively put up a fight..
