For those still wondering what the SHOT is, here ya' go: http://www.shotshow.org/ Kind of like our own PIA conventions.

billvon 3,008 #10 December 18, 2009 >What does that "tell" you? That it's not like PIA. PIA is just a bunch of parachute manufacturers who give talks about parachutes, skydiving and military airborne operations. No one I know of goes there for political reasons, or thinks that it represents what they "stand for." Not that that's bad, it's just a different kind of show. They talk politics because there are forces at work to ban or limit those activities, so they have to be involved politically to survive. If there were national groups and numerous politicians whose goal was to ban skydiving, you can bet for sure that there would be political talks at PIA conventions too. Well, there are jumpers/DZO's who want to ban or restrict swooping, but that's not discussed much at PIA (beyond seminars on swooping safely.) That's more appropriate for a USPA meeting, and thus people can choose to go to see the manufacturing side of things or the political side of things. Like I said, there's nothing wrong with either a political (USPA) or trade show (PIA) event. In fact, it's a good thing that this show makes it clear that it's quite political, so people can choose what they want to go to see,

I know where you were going with it, but its like talking about some dangerous practices at some IDPA match. Your example isn't a large enough scale, effecting a large enough business world, nor mentioned in the Bill of Rights. Everyone I know that has gone to a SHOT show say its the coolest place to finger some new gear and meet the manufactures. Everyone in the industry is there and showing off their new gear. Since I don't get to go, I'm looking forward to the magazine articles showcasing the new gear in the March time-frame.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." That's great, and maybe it's not as political as that statement makes it sound like. But let's use an example that might make more sense to you: There are currently a lot of alternative-energy trade shows out there. I go to one, SEIA, every year to keep up on the technology for my job. You might consider going to one as well if you were interested in solar power for your home. Now consider two shows. One describes itself as "the year’s largest solar event in North America. This is the premier place for expanding your knowledge of solar power and networking with the foremost members of the solar industry." The other describes itself as "the biggest gathering of solar technology experts to fight global warming in the USA. Come to XXX to hear what we're doing to stop the damage." You might consider going to one over the other, depending on what you wanted to see - even if both might indeed have great displays and helpful people on hand.
