Do you believe that non-believers in christianity should have to shut up?No! and that is NOT what he posted.

Yes, it is.

Quote

Do you believe that gays should shut up about being gay? No, I dont.... I feel they can do what ever they want in the bedroom but I should not have hear about it

What? You think that gays shouldn't shut up, but you also feel that you shouldn't have to hear about them being gay?

Um, if gay people talk about being gay, I'm afraid that you are going to hear about it from time to time. The only way you can not hear about it is if they shut up about it, which you just denied wanting. See the contradiction here?

Quote

You on the other hand projected exactly what you accused me of.

No, unfortunately that pesky attention to detail thing is getting in your way again. Concentrate on understanding the posts you're reading and being consistent in what you're writing and you'll see what I'm getting at.

So, you post here that it is what he posted and then you tell him sorry for not reading his post correctly????

Then you call me on detail

firstly, there's a big difference between "should" and "should have to". I think a lot of people should shut up. Mostly, I don't want to hear it, because I don't care.

I also think that the Christians that profess their faith to me are much more annoying than the guy people I know who tell me they're gay. To be more specific, I've not had a single gay person try to convert me. Can't say so much for the Christians (even though I'm already Christian, I'm not THEIR brand of Christian).

Except this belief did have factual basis. You didn't far enough into the thread. Way to go quickdraw.

So, if you believe something that is wrong, as long as it's based on somebody else's belief that has nothing at all to do with reality, it's ok. You're still right.

Get real! In 1972 I wasn't writing a term paper. It was just campfire talk between sport parachutists. Another quickdraw, and you missed me also.:D:D

I'm so sorry Ron, I realise now that I've done you a great diservice and I owe you an apology. It was entirely juvenile of me, and derogatory to you, to suggest that you were basing your knowledge on "what some guy told you at a bar". It is obvious to me now that knowledge based on "what some guy told you round a campfire" is an entirely more forceful and logical intellectual proposition.

What you and quade do not seem to understand is that in the 1972 era, the peace symbol as a broken cross was a common folktale. The resource post indicated that the folktale wrongly attributed its origin to The John Birsch Society as a antichrist symbol. However, that does not take away from the fact that the story circulated at the time without challenge. I acknowledged same and my error. Now will you guys just get a life.

Except even that is a myth. America was settled as a for-profit proposition. Some of the people involved were Christian, sure, but that wasn't the motivation at all.

Settled "as" vs settled "for" vs settled "of"

you might want to rewrite history to your own cynical bias, but for profit settling is absolutely true, but it doesn't change the demographics of those that did it

I think it's safe to say that the original population with overwhelmingly of christian content

tell youwhat, you get me the breakdown - how much was buddist, muslim, and Hindu vs christian background and you might make your point

I'm pretty sure the Native Americans would disagree with this statement.
Also, it's irrelevent, as the founding document of our nation and its subsequent edits have made it clear that our nation has no national religion. Hopefully, it never will.

He was talking about his family, not the country - perhaps you missed that in your rush to condemn him for not being PC enough.

He was talking about what his family taught him about "what America is about".

And he's *STILL* not talking about the government. Strike one.

Quote

Perhaps you missed that in your rush to defend any conservative against any liberal no matter what the subject.

Strike two.

Quote

I mean seriously, do you honestly think that what he stated in his post is "what America is about", or are you just defending him because it's me?

Neither - he's talking about the values passed on by his parents/grandparents, not about the gov't.

Strike three, and you're out. Thanks for playing.

I certainly have, because, once again, you've got it wrong.

And I notice that you haven't actually responded to any of the contradictions I've pointed out in your post.

If you have actually read his post, you could not possibly believe that. Let's look, shall we?

"They did not believe that America has to apologize." America, not his family. Strike one.

"They believed America is a Christian nation". America, not his family. Strike two.

"They believed that if you have to go to war make sure you do everything you can to completely destroy your enemy. After the war do everything you can to help them reconstruct their decimated country. Never allow the war to reach our borders." Who's war? Who's enemy? Who's borders? America's, not his family's.

Thus, what America and the American government is about, not what his family is about. Strike fuckin' three.

As completely and conclusively shown above, it's about what he and his family believe about the country and the government, and those beliefs are, to a large degree, wrong.

You really should see this by now, and in fact, I'm pretty sure you do, but any conservative, any liberal....

Well, no, you didn't. You said that you were still right and that your opinion was factually based. Since neither of those things are true (It's a fact that someone said it to you but that doesn't mean it's factual) you should probably make your acknowledgements a little clearer in future unless you want people to continue calling you on this stuff.

I guess it's just an American thing. Speaking the language of another nation does necessarily bring meaning. The meaning gets lost in the translation. I speak American.

You are basing your belief on observations you see on TV. You do not live here. Therefore, as I said at the start, your opinion of the American way of life don't mean squat because you are not a citizen here.

If you are a U.S. citizen and choose to live in the UK, then you are ashamed of America and have another agenda. If that is the case then fess up.

Where did I ever say it was? It is what he and his family believe about the country and the government, and what they believe about the country and the government is wrong.

Let's put it this way, if I said to you that my family passed down to me the values that America is a fascist nation ruled by dictatorship and martial law, would you say I was mistaken? After all, according to you, I'm only talking about me and my family, not America:S
