The AA12 Automatic Shotgun

WAAAA, no ones talking to me! I think this is a far better weapon.

Click fixed. Cute rifle, but how long do the batteries last. Especially at sub-freezing temps.

Kinda heavy, and I think the (estimated) $25000 per rifle is gonna be hard to get around.

I had a bit of a debate with a guy down at my local range. His AR has red dot sights, flashlight, bipod, all the bells and whisltes. Mine has nothing. No red dot, just iron sights. No bi-pod, lights, mounting rails or anything.

His is cool no doubt, but I don't have any batteries to die, and I can hold mine ready at my shoulder for a lot longer than his.

"Better" is very subjective.

>The US military would be smart to prohibit access to this shotgun to
>only those inside of their trusted circles.

Why? Why deny people the right to defend themselves? I mean, if a dozen heavily armored robots attacked your house, the ability to shoot twelve HE grenades in under eight seconds could mean the difference between life and death for you and your family!

All these gun-o-phobes here on SC, never seeing the big picture.

Maybe some people have a ton of fun blowing the shit out of barrels in their backyards.

I have watched some video of some of the machine gun shoots and it is hilarious.

Not sure how much money those folks are spending on their ammo, but it is obvious they are there for fun. It is their sport. Some people like to jump out of airplanes and some people like to blow shit up. As long as they are not committing any crimes, what's the big deal?

Because if one person uses a gun for nefarious purposes, then why should all those people be able to have fun???

Because "Guns are Bad" and nobody should have fun with them??

Because a lot of the anti-gun folk are "hoplophobes" (an unreasonable fear of weapons) and refuse to accept that anyone should have a gun.

I see. And yet you proclaim that a person can't talk about gun control when speaking also of this weapon?

Sorry, but I think the two are inextricably linked.

No, not necessarily. The "gun nuts" want to talk about the technical and asthetic aspects of this particular (somewhat silly and over-the-top IMO) shotgun. Not every "gun" thread needs to be about gun rights.

But some virulently anti-gun posters wish to chime in as to why this particular gun should be unavailable to the general public...

Not really. The OP specifically mentioned banning the weapon in the first post. It's not just 'chiming in' for others to then talk about it - it is directly addressing the point of the thread.
Do you want to have an ideagasm?

About as accurate as saying a lot of the pro-gun folk suffer from medomalacuphobia and use their guns to compensate.

Perhaps, but I don't see it that often.

I get some of those from time to time at the local range (I am one of the range officers). They are usually the ones who have to have the biggest gun, or feel the need to burn through a full magazine as fast a possible (without hitting a damned thing:S). They can be some of the scariest ones too, because they think they know everything, yet can't keep their weapon pointed in a safe direction.
And don't know or won't follow the rules.
Most guys just want to have a good time, and work on their skills.

Many of the antis seem to leave logic behind. My personal favorite is Michael Bloomberg banning Duacoat, a protective finish for guns. Someone is going to spend that kind of money to make a gun look like a toy?
Of course, Duracoat got a lot of free publicity out of it.

I'm probably going to get my AR coated in a camo pattern next year (trading an airbrush to the guy who will use it to coat the gun).

Did I say that? Dang I did say that. Can I take it back? Nope too late. :)

From my "not even remotely close to being an expert on firearm" eyes, the AA12 appears to be a very potent shotgun and I think it would be rather dangerous in the wrong set of hands. But I see some people's point that some folks could use such a firearm for purely recreational purposes. There are some people who could be trusted with such a firearm and there are others which could not be trusted. It is possible to be killed with a .22 as well. Of course the AA12 is not a .22 and it is also not your grandfather's shotgun he used for hunting.

What exactly is there about this shotgun that scares you?

What exactly is there about this shotgun that makes it so much more desirable for the military? It overpowers virtually everything else that comes before it.

What exactly is your problem with keeping it out of the hands of criminals? ;)

Hey, I have an idea!

Why don't we make it as illegal, and hard to obtain by criminals as, say, cocaine?

Boy, that would be great! All you have to do is pass a law and the problem is solved!

Next, we can solve the problem of drunken driving. Pass a law against alcohol - we could call it, I don't know, Prohibition or something - and the problem would be nipped in the bud. No more alcohol, and no more DUIs. Why has nobody else thought of that?

With enough laws, we can make everything perfect for everybody.
