Daddy, what does hippo-icy mean?

Recommended Posts

That’s a big boy question, Billy. The word you’re thinking of is “hypocrisy”. I think the best way to explain it is to give you a good example. Billy, do you know what an example is? Yes daddy I do.

Well, here is an example of hypocrisy… Republican lawmakers lobbying for stimulus money and then voting against the bill.

Wow daddy, what a bunch of assholes!

Not really. It would only be hypocrisy if, by refusing to accept money, the debt your grandkids will be paying off would be less. That's not the case. Now it's a matter of "We're going to be paying this back, might as well get something out of it." Of course, I was willing to support my Gov.'s choice not to accept the cash because it won't be used in any way that directly benefits me. Since that wasn't legal-I'm good with them taking the cash because I don't have any kids and I just need the nation to limp along for another 20 or 30 years and then it's somebody else's problem.

Why wouldn't they take the money? the stimulous bill was going to happen with or without rep support and if the people would be paying the bill through their taxes they should get part of it. If you had to pay for part of a house, you would at least want a room in it wouldn't you?

Absolutely. But if at the same time you were saying "we should reduce the number of houses; we don't need so many" you'd look like a hypocrite.

If they want a piece of the pie for their constituents, no problem. Both getting a piece of the pie and complaining about how there's too many pieces of the pie is the problem.

Welcome to DC. Hypocrisy doesn't have a party affiliation.

>But after the pie comes out of the oven-It's not gonna get any smaller.
>Even if you give your slice to someone else, you still gotta pay your part of

Yep. But again, you're a lot more credible arguing against baking a pie when your mouth isn't full of it.

(Can we get any more mileage out of this analogy? I'm sure we can.)

But you can't put the pecans back in the shell. You have to use them at that point.

Sorry-I didn't really have a point and I am running out of pie references
