Andy9o8 2 #26 February 26, 2010 Quote He wouldn't say this in public. He's immune from slander while in Legislative session. It's a privilege. I double dog dare him to say that off the floor. Considering that what he said is likely provably false, he would find himself in trouble. Maybe, to the extent he'd find himself a defendant in slander suits; for as you and I know, you can sue anybody, and make them spend a shitload in legal fees. But the outcome of such suits is highly questionable. In my opinion, and you may disagree, Jerry, there are no specific (enough) plaintiffs who would have standing to sue. The most specific Weiner got was "Every Republican I have ever met is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the insurance industry." Now aside from the fact that "truth is an absolute defense" to a defamation action, that probably isn't enough to give anyone standing to sue him, and thus I think that his (defendant's) motion for summary judgment to dismiss such lawsuits would be granted. Great beak he's got there, by the way. Just perfect to peck at the shills on the other side of the aisle with. "Hey you fascist fuckers!" . You know, sometimes some people simply need to be told to eat shit. Too bad he sat down before calling them the Evil Empire that they are. I think I'll move so I can vote for this guy the next time. The title of this thread is spot on.
lawrocket 3 #27 February 26, 2010 The guy was trolling. Personally, my mom's a hardcore republican and she hasn't seemed to be an insurance company lackey. It would be similar to some GOP guy getting up there and saying that every Democrat he's ever met is a committed communist dedicated to the overthrow of personal freedoms by any means necessary. Of course - I think I'm gonna check this guy's campaign finance disclosure reports. His speaking out against it sounds like the typical deflection of any politician. Whatever they rail against they are doing. My wife is hotter than your wife.

Anyhow, if his real purpose was to call an asshat and asshat, it wasn't deflection, it was a bulls-eye. As I said above, sometime you just gotta tell some people to eat shit. Yes, you would think intelligent adults, especially those in the role of finding solutuions to our nation's challenges, would not be fountains of hyperbole, exxageration, and outright lies. Unfortunately, enough of the public lap it up - so they consider it a valuable tool." . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley

Unfortunately, enough of the public lap it up - so they consider it a valuable tool. Yeah, wouldn't it be nice if the right wingnuts didn't come up with outright lies like "death panels", and "My baby would have been euthanized under obamacare", and "Using reconciliation is the NUCLEAR OPTION!!', etc, etc. Since the corporate takeover of the media, the right wing bullshit ends up with WAY more publicity than used to be the case. Back when I was a young'un, if a broadcaster knowingly and repeatedly broadcast that which was patently untrue, and failed to publish corrections, their broadcast license could be suspended or revoked. The public airwaves, as in, the radio frequencies that carry radio and television broadcasts are owned by the US government. They are RENTED to the radio/TV stations. It used to be the use of the airwaves carried a great deal of responsibility. Due to the corporate takeover of the US government, the rules have been watered down to uselessness. The problem with the corporate takeover of the media is those that control the media control the message. There are very few right winger followers who protested against the Iraq war, and the CONCURRENT massive tax cuts for the wealthy. Instead of raising taxes to pay for the wars, taxes were CUT. We started borrowing money at an unprecedented rate to pay for two wars, along with the LARGEST EXPANSION OF THE GOVERNMENT in history. The borrowed money paid for the tax cuts that were given to the top earners in the country. Government oversight of the banking and energy industries fell away to nothingness. The "energy crisis" in California, the massive runup of gas and diesel prices that had no correleation to the cost of raw materials, and the promotion of mortgage backed securities all put the country on a path to the economic disaster that we are in now. The built in budget deficits are crippling efforts to turn around the havoc wreaked on the USA by 8 years of Republican incompetence and deliberate right wing ignorance. The tea party nitwits are being led by the very corporate entities that got us here. I still don't get how the right winger are so easily led into voting against their own best interests. How can anyone in their right mind support the current system of paying for, and delivering medical care in the USA? The parasitic leech that is the for-profit insurance companies suck up more than 1/3 of the revenue. For the fact challenged, health insurance companies used to be ALL non-profit organizations. The Rescums figured out how much money was in play and fixed that "terrible mistake" for us. The results are outstanding, if you are a rich Republican. For the rest of us, not so much.
