That has to be incredibly rewarding and crushingly heart-breaking, simultaneously.

I do long-haul comms. Gotta make sure the troops can email and call Momma!

You rock. I kid who was in my summer camp class (I teach...but also do summercamp during the summer) was diagnosed with ALD after we noticed some serious issue. He died less than a year later- late last year. The nurses who cared for him at the end were the most wonderful people in the world. Big hugs to you.
I woke up next to a blowup doll Ash....so what do you think?

I manage an operations office for an electric and gas utility

Most days are getting services installed and talking to upset customers

Biggest challenge was the 07 ice storm

There were almost 600 crew members working out of the HQ I work at. I was their first contact and coordinator while they were here

Glad that one is over[:/]

I worked on some of the software. Now I do project management for the same area.

I was a materials consultant for the main engines of that.

Nowadays I teach engineers how to fix quanta.

I am an engineer:ph34r:
I design water and sewer infrastructure. It's a remarkably thanksless job when you consider that you can't be a first world country without it yet everyone takes it for granted because it is generally very reliable.

Most people take the work product of engineers for granted.

The cell phone works, the car starts, the bridges keep you out of the river, clean water comes from the tap, the plane takes off, the TV turns on, the WiFi connects, tiny batteries run your watch for years... all because engineers made it happen.

I used to work for a ductile iron pipe company that manufactures pipes for such projects.

If only my supervisor wasn't such a fucking prick I would still be there. Great company, but one little prick can ruin it all. :|

As of Thursday, this guy is my job.

At least until I decide to quit burning up sick, vacation and holiday time and go back to my "real" job.

I spent a little time looking for cute "baby tactical" stuff. Haven't really found anything yet, but I did get one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Only-Democrats-Infant-Shirt-Onesie/dp/B0029KE2OE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=apparel&qid=1267632359&sr=8-1

That and the diaper bag I carry is a bag by Maxpedition.:D

Nothing.

What's this got to do with Speaker's Corner?

Oh, okay, I'll make it fit. I'm an abortion doctor for lesbian married couples who carry concealed firearms.

and post on the internet and congratulate yourself for changing the water bottle on the water cooler while real (and oppressed) workers do dirty stuff in various union fields?
