Pelosi: we have to pass the health care bill so that you can find out what is in it

Clarified...and I'm ok with restricting freebie healthcare to those who a) need it and b) took reasonable steps on their own to prevent the problem. Emphysema treatment for a smoker, cirrhosis treatment for a heavy drinker, angioplasty for a 400 pound person...meh, these are not things that concern me.

Doesn't sounds promising for the skydivers.

"and the third, first among equals I may say, is health care, health insurance reform. Health insurance reform is about jobs. This legislation alone will create 4 million jobs, about 400,000 jobs very soon."

Where will the cost savings come from, if we'll be hiring 4 million more people?

If we're doing this reform as they say, there should be a large loss of jobs - all the paper pushers at the insurance companies. And with that, considerable savings.

(or we could actually start attacking the problems of fitness)

Someone please run on down to the asylum and close the doors before any more lunatics like Nancy Pelosi escape. For crying out loud, she wants to pass legislation that few if any law makers understand?

Im just gonna put it here in writing for when it happens later.

Obama is a crook, Pelosi is a liar, and even though you will never admit this due to pride the democrat politicians in office right now are about to screw things up on so many levels.

They dont care about the american public one bit, they are all trying to uplift their golden child obama by passing the feel good bills. Why are they in such a hurry if they are not trying to cover something up?

And changing the vote to an "up down" is also a cover so the uninformed public does not realize they are trying to use some back door rule to sneak another one in on them...

I think you got it wrong, Obama is a liar and polosi is a crook or maybe Obama is a liar and a crook and polosi is a liar and a crook, yep that's it!

so with context, I read that as "we'll have to pass it and experience it's outcome before we can pass judgement on it"

Judging the success of things based on how they turn out is called "outcomes assessment" and is an effective tool.

Yes, provided that the feedback is used constructively. Tell me, if the outcome were to be total disaster, would they admit it was poorly thought out and scrap it, or blame it on the opposing party and spend more money trying to "fix" it?

If government was good at assessing the true outcome of something, why are things such a mess?

A report by Heritage came out today pointing out which insurance company denied the most claims in all the US. Care to guess which one it was?:)

From President Obama:

"By the time the vote has taken place, not only I will know what's in it, you'll know what's in it because it's going to be posted and everybody's going to be able to evaluate it on the merits,"

So much for transparency and letting the public know what's in the bill before it's voted on. What a joke.

Dude, re-read the post. We are not going to know what's in it until it's sitting on the presidents desk. That is what he just told Bret Baier yesterday. At that point, do you think he is not going to sign it?

Asked to respond to a viewer's e-mail question about why he has to "bribe Congress to pass it," Obama said, "I've got the same exact e-mails that I could show you that talk about why haven't we done something to make sure that I, a small business person, am getting as good a deal as members of Congress are getting, and don't have my insurance rates jacked up 40 percent?"

That's the thing about a political system that allows amendments to be made - the final state of any bill is subject to change up until the final vote is taken. Maybe we should just outlaw amendments, OR STOP WHINING.

Err, the concept of amendments have little to do with the notion of deliberation. CA's bills are available on the government website, with all revisions as they occur.

But because the Democrats fear election reprisals for pushing in unpopular legislation, they want to get it done as quickly as possible (or preferably 3 months ago), well before the primaries and the general election. So putting forth the legislation and proposed changes for timely consideration is not really an objective.

And let's not forget - the point of the subcommittee is to deal with most of the issues and likely changes in advance of the closing deliberations and vote on the main floor. Of course, this bill is no longer going by the classic process, with the Democrats trying to figure out a way to not even have to vote on it again.
