finally the USA gets health care for all.. hopefully

Recommended Posts

Looking from afar in Australia.. glad to see the USA finally gets a heaLth care plan passed. Most of us here are amazed that a great country like yours (yes most of us like the USA) would have 30 million folk without any cover.

I saw on TV some people crying cause the govt was going to run health care. What you trust bloody insurance companies to run health care.. all they think about is making a buck and they make more bucks by denying health care. How can some doctors look at themselves in the mirror when they are employed by insurance companies to deny care!! The more they deny care the more bonus they get. ( SEE MICHAEL MOORE SICKO)

No our health system is not perfect here but everyone is covered. Example a work friend almost cut his entire thumb off with a chain saw. Straight to dandenong Hospital specialist team assembled and 3 operations and a 2 week stay in hospital. The cost I hear you ask.... ZERO ZERO ZERO!!! All he had to do is sign a medicare form.

Yes folk here take out Private Insurance if they want better facitities and quicker access for non urgent operations. Its true you can wait for 3 years for a knee operation but at least you get it for free. Pay extra for private health insurance you get it done now. (yOUR CHOICE)

How do we pay for this ? a 1.5 % levy on salary unless you are on low incomes where you pay nothing. If people earn over 100 grand a year (for a single) they have to take up Private insurance to ease the burden on medicare... if they do not they pay an extra surcharge on their salary.

We have had medicare for over 30 years now and if any polictical party ever dared to remove it they would be thrown out on their ASS or arse as we say.

Glad to see you are finally joining the civilised world re health care.

Next you can start on the cost of drugs. We have a PBS scheme were most drugs are capped at $30... of course if you are unemployed / on an pension or low income you pay aaround $3.50 maximum.

All in all not a bad deal Socialised medicine... may be but works pretty good here (not perfect of course we complain about things but at least EVERYONE IS COVERED) AND IT HAS NOT SENT THE COUNTRY BANKRUPT. Aussie dollar 92 cents US and we do not owe China (a communist country) (Does that not concerned you .. a country that prides itself on capitalism and a while back the richest country in the world.. now in debt up to their ASS to China bloody hell !!!)

i LOOK FORWARD TO FOX NEWS response to all this.. the most biased right wing channel I have ever seen. Most of us treat it like the comedy channel. Owned by a former Australian Mr Murdoch.. a true right winger if there ever was one.

No I am not a leftie (and I do like yanks very nice people in the main) rather in the middle but health care for all is a no brainer !!!

PS thanks for inventing the good sky dive gear 3 rings etc.. good stuff.
I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??

So long as there is any level of competition, they compete by making health insurance not a pain in the ass. I avoid Kaiser, stick to PPO plans where I can pick my doctors (fairly) freely. Definitely a boon when I broke my shoulder. I asked here, got a rec, and went to him the next day.

People fear that health care will resemble the DMV.

Now, we're already paying 3.3% (employees pay 1.65, employers + self employed pay another 1.65%) to fund our retirement Medicare. And it's viewed as a ticking time bomb tens of trillions of dollars worse than Social Security. So I have to question the math behind 1.5% paying for everything. Unless everything is a heck of a lot smaller. (or that you benefit from a much smaller population)

It's not America where health services cost more.

The per-capita spending on Medicare (which only covers the fraction of us who are old and has premiums) exceeds what other countries spend to insure their entire populations.

And the reason for this? Without solving this question, the Aussie's simple tax plan doesn't do us any good.

The gov isn't going to run HC, you must have listened to FOX News.

We will still have HC-for-profit with a little gov intrusion.

If it happened at work, we have that. If it happened in private, the way it is before this bill, they hospital would have to admit and do the intitial operation, even if it would be to amputate, then release. Then go after you and drive you into bankruptcy; litterally.

That's the way it s/b; you're not penalized for being rich or for being poor.

You would be burned at the cross here for that attitiude, I think that's a good system.

We have it, had it for 40+ years, but it primarily covers those 65 and older.

We're not, quit listening to FOX news. Single payer was never a plan, public option was passed by the house and killed by the senate.

That's in the HC Bill.

You have been gaining ground on our dollar for a while. I just bought a Cookie helmet, so I helped :P. Yea, it's a myth that Soc Med drives countries BK. SOme people will look at countries that go BK, see that they have soc med and blame it on that. The only reason we are not BK is due to our high GDP, we're basically a guy who earns $1 M per year, but has 20M debt; as long as we stay solvent there is no problem and we look rich, drive a nice car, etc.

Ah yes, Murdoch, the same guy who sold part of his share of teh parent co to Fox News to that Muslim who, after 911, gave NY $10M, then said 911 was the fault of the US. Yea, that Murdoch and FOX are real American entities. :S

But if ya want better garbage, look to the Heritage Foundation or Cato Institute, these internet rags actually get praise from the same garbage politicians that are crying about the HC Bill.

Left wing Americans are like moderate to RW Ausies. In the US you are a lefty.

You type/speak good English for a person who speaks/types Australian. :P

Ps. Why is it so GD hard to immigrate there? >:(

BOHICA

Bend Over Here It Comes Again.

We are truely fucked if this is really going to happen.

We're starting to assimilate to the rest of the world, now we need to cut our military to 1/8th of what ot is and we will start to be normal.

You think ebing 12T in debt, which has been mostly racked by the R's, is not fucked?

Talk about clueless - who do you think "the Secretary" that's mentioned over and over in the bill is - the lady sitting outside the office of the Humana CEO?

Gov-run HC would require a sinlge payer or at the very least, a public option. This is just ins co reform, as in the req to accept pre-existing conditions. This is simply corporate reform.

Putting insurance under control of the gov't is 'corporate reform'?

Amazing.

have you investigated it? I work with a guy who is moving to AU in a couple of months. It's complex, but not that hard. A couple of medical checks, some quarantine time for his pets.

The only reason he's still here is he hasn't sold his house yet.

The aussie dollar is now worth $1.07 US and we still have health cover for all !!!!

Great place to visit for a holiday (USA) and lovely people but would hate to live there unless I was rich.

No compulsory Superannuation... (employer pays 9 per cent of your salary into super) no long service leave (thats 3 months leave after 10 years service) and I would not get my 9 weeks annual leave and $68 000 per year for a 38 hour week.(looking at security cameras for Govt buildings mainly)

How do you folk put with such an imbalance of wealth (the haves have 90 per cent and the other 90 per cent have wants left.

Socialism I hear you say !!! well if thats Socialism get it to me. PS I do like the USA and the people really!!! However do not get me started on the gratutity thing (very annoying as a tourist)
I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??

It took ages for me to get my gamertag linked, because EA site bugged for me. I finally got it to work not so long ago, and am finally able to see screenshots I've taken. And those were taken by accident, when I didn't know how to take 'em (only noticed the feature when "achievement unlocked" popped on my screen, for unlocking the one that you get from taking 3 screenshots). So they are mostly just closeups of ground, with couple knifekills
