billvon 3,064 #1 March 26, 2010 Y'know, people are generally OK with change, and the democrats have not been doing a very good job of governing over the past few years. It should be pretty easy to pick up a bunch of seats as long as the republicans demonstrate that they are a good alternative. But if they continue to present themselves as batshit crazy, people might think that the incompetent party is better than the psychotic one. Recent Harris poll of Republicans: 67% think he's a socialist 45% think he was not born in the US 38% think he is doing "many things Hitler did" 24% think Obama may literally be the Antichrist Maybe more intelligent debate and less crazy might sell a little better. sundevil777 102 #5 March 26, 2010 Quote67% think he's a socialist I'm surprised that number isn't higher. He is socialist. His previous statements have made that quite clear. He advocates for achieving economic justice by redistribution of wealth. What would you call that? Quote45% think he was not born in the US I do not think that is true, but I think the pres intentionally does not do everything he can to prove it false. I think he figures that he benefits from there being groups that continue to make that claim, so he enables them in a way. Quote38% think he is doing "many things Hitler did" Not a surprise, just as so many thought that of Bush, but I don't figure you would have agreed that it meant Dems were "losing it". Quote24% think Obama may literally be the Antichrist Again, those Dems that believed in the bible had plenty that thought the same about Bush. Nothing new or distinctive there. Even those libs that didn't believe in God thought Bush was the equivalent of the antichrist. Geez, I thought you were going to cite something remarkable in this thread. Instead, just making a big deal of the normal stuff that has happened from both sides, actually, I think it happens much more from the libs.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I think I'd like to see how the last two questions were phrased. Somehow I think those two were a bit leading, like just about any Fox poll. 'So ya heard he's like Hitler, right?' The first two - yeah, I have little doubt that self reporting republicans (which are generally the right 2/3rds of that party's voting block) believe the first two in large numbers. Nothing about those questions had to be fuzzy to get that result.

Please indicate for each whether you believe it is true or false." "He is a socialist He was not born in the United States and so is not eligible to be president He is doing many of the things that Hitler did He may be the Anti-Christ" Another interesting result: "These replies are also strongly correlated with education. The less education people have had the more likely they are to believe all of these statements." One reason, perhaps, that some republicans are anti-education; it costs them votes. Oh, I don't think the entire right wing is losing it. But at least a quarter of them definitely are (as you've acknowledged above.) And that's a pretty significant number. If you meet four right wingers tomorrow, odds are that one of them believes that our president is an evil supernatural being here to wage an apocalyptic war with Jesus Christ.
