RonD1120 62 #6 April 10, 2010 QuoteAnd this time it isn't the Muslims: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/photos/stylus/133999-crucifix_cartoon_lg.jpg Coast to Coast AM, a very late night radio program, is promoting an expose' show Sunday/Monday. They claim to have evidence of an Email or letter signed by the current pope authorizing the cover-up of sexual misconduct of priests, et. al. Furthermore, they claim the cover-up can be traced back to Pope John Paul II as well. Not a good time to be in the priesthood. Much the same as when Jimmy Swaggart and Jim Bakker were caught in adulterous affairs. All Pentecostal preachers were held accountable. So it goes. At least they chose adult consensual females. Sexual sin is pervasive in the world and always has been. We relish in the news when the other guy gets caught. As humans we have the ability to control our sexual behavior. Why don't we?Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them. There's a difference between threats that come from members of a religion and those that come from its actual leaders. There's also a difference between those that target people because of their deeds (as in attacks on abortion doctors) and those that target them over words (as in cartoonists). Not saying that any of these acts are justified, just that they are quite different.
Andy9o8 2 #9 April 10, 2010 QuoteNot equivalent. It's the nature of analogies: by definition, imperfect comparisons, used to make a broad point. Which is why I almost never get sucked into arguing the parsing of analogies. And won't do so here, either. It is what it is. Scuze me now, I have to go look under my bed for scary Muslims. ryoder 1,590 #13 April 10, 2010 Quote I have to go look under my bed for scary Muslims. That reminds me of a great "Weekend Update with Dennis Miller" on SNL. I couldn't find the video, but here is an excerpt from the transcript: Quote ... And former folk singer Cat Stevens, now known as Yusuf Islam, came out this week and said he advocated the assassination of Salman Rushdie. So much for that "Peace Train" crap, huh, Cat? ... Yeah, I could see this comin' years ago on his old album, Tea for the Killerman [Doctored photo of Cat Stevens' album Tea for the Tillerman] ... you, uh, you remember the big hit: [sings a parody of Stevens' song "Moonshadow"] I'm being followed by a big muslim Big muslim, big muslim [switches to falsetto voice] Big muslim, big muslim Big muslim, big muslim ... I live in Ireland, this country has been rocked by the revelations of child rape by some priests and systemic cover up of the abuse by others. I'm not Catholic but it saddnes me greatly that this has happened and that the Catholic church is in the mess it now finds itself in. Let alone the people whos lives have been damaged, ruined and in some cases ended as a result of the abuse that they recieved. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy.
