rhys 0 #1 April 10, 2010 take your pick on which article to read ***George W. Bush knew many of the prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay were innocent but did nothing, according to documents filed in a recent lawsuit, The Times of London reports. The President, along with Vice-President Dick Cheney and then-Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, were allegedly afraid to release the men fearing the move could harm the effort in Iraq and the war on terror at large, a former top aide to former Secretary of State Colin Powell alleges in documents obtained by the Times of London. Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson made the statements in a signed declaration to support a lawsuit filed against American officials by Guantánamo detainee Adel Hassan Hamad, a Sudanese man who was held at Guantánamo Bay from March 2003 until December 2007. Mr Hamad claims that he was tortured by U.S. agents while in custody. Colonel Wilkerson, a critic of the Bush Administration’s counter terrorism tactics who served 31 years in the US Army, asserted: “He had absolutely no concern that the vast majority of Guantánamo detainees were innocent ... If hundreds of innocent individuals had to suffer in order to detain a handful of hardcore terrorists, so be it.” He alleged that for Cheney and Rumsfeld thought “innocent people languishing in Guantánamo for years was justified by the broader War on Terror and the small number of terrorists who were responsible for the September 11 attacks”. He added: “I discussed the issue of the Guantánamo detainees with Secretary Powell. I learnt that it was his view that it was not just Vice-President Cheney and Secretary Rumsfeld, but also President Bush who was involved in all of the Guantánamo decision making.” Spokespeople for Bush and for Rumsfeld have categorically denied the allegations, according to the Times of London. General Powell is likely to have backed Colonel Wilkerson’s declaration, the newspaper reports. source; DAILY NEWS"When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

Don't you have a guitar to re-string or something else useful to do? I am disgusted by the right wing conservative apologists. You worthless examples of humanity continue to support that which is morally and spiritually bankrupt. What you support and defend is that we, the USA, did violate the Geneva convention, as well as numerous other treaties, and tortured people, with approval from the highest level of our government. Have any of you dirtbags noticed that Shrub and Dick haven't done any international travel? Perhaps they know that Interpol might place them under arrest and send to the Hague for a well deserved trial. If it was good enough for Milosevic, why isn't it good enough for Shrub and Dick? The bastards need to be held accountable for their crimes. Due to you fuckwits, it won't happen in the USA. We'll have to depend on the international community to step in and handle the matter. It used to be that right wing conservatives had some idea of right and wrong. That clearly has passed.

Bush has travelled internationally...FACT If either travelled further than that, neither would be arrested and sent to the Hague...FACT. Neither have been indicted on war crimes....neither is wanted in any capacity that would preclude them from travelling outside the US. Are you aware of any outstanding warrants or indictments that await either Bush or Cheney if they leave the US?
kelpdiver 2 #23 April 11, 2010 yes, the war crimes cry tends to come from people who don't understand what those are, and have translated it into "he did stuff I didn't approve of." You see similar idiots who go on about impeaching officials they disagree with. Bush is Texan - they think their state is the holy land, and no reason for anyone to go anywhere else. I'm sure he's happily retired away and having fun on the ranch. Even when he was President he couldn't stay away.
