Missouri SWAT team kills pitbull and shoots....a fuckin' Corgi?

Recommended Posts

http://reason.com/blog/2010/05/05/video-of-swat-raid-on-missouri Ok, I can see the need for SWAT on a trafficking warrant. I can see the need for a LEO to shoot a dog if it poses a genuine threat. All of this is assuming that they've done their homework.

BUT THEY SHOT A FUCKING CORGI AND THERE WEREN'T EVEN ANY DRUGS!

Edit: Title changed since it was actually the pit-bull they killed.

I was reading about this earlier. Sounds like they may have screwed the pouch on this one.

And you know what, I'll play devil's advocate. Let's say that they know this won't be a high stress warrant. Their commander wants SWAT in there because he needs to keep them active in the field. Then some fucking nut job on the squad has a boner for killing shit and unloads on the first thing he sees.

Dave, I'm sure there's some procedure for a non-lethal solution to a dog. Every drug dealer in the world has a dog. Is it too much to think that their intel included a dog being on premises and they act accordingly?

That depends on the department and their procedures. Typically, dogs become a non-issue when a flashbang is tossed. Sometimes, if there are known dogs in the yard, especially dangerous dogs, then some sort of ACO component or an ACO trained SWAT officer can "rope" the dog. That doesn't always work. OC spray doesn't work on all dogs. Tasers are really hard to deploy against dogs. If you have someone with a Sage or Super Sock, then those can be deployed against a dog, but those less lethal weapons are powerful enough that they kill the dog anyways.

I guess it depends on cop...er, dog.

One man's pet and friend is another man's fear. Sort of like the elderly man I "saved" from the dangerous dog on his porch. It was a Chihuahua. With a pink collar that was in the corner of the porch, shaking. The 80yr old man was honestly SCARED of that dog. I got the dog off the porch and told it to run home before the dog catcher got him. It looked at me with a cocked head. So I asked "donde viva?" It barked so I said "ir a casa" and it ran off with a purpose.

:D

(That's actually a true story)

Last night I had a horrific nightmare about this...my friends and I were base jumping without parachutes and landing just fine until one of my friends split her back open exposing her spine...other than that she functioned normally, but then the swat team arrived and just started blowing everyone away including our dogs...we were all defensless and it was very vivid and gorry...

I thought I read something somewhere that in order to dream about someone or something it had to be ingrained into your mind over a period of several days...what gives?

I've seen many Pitbulls that I even being a dog lover, would shot before trying to deal with them! Many are trianed to fuck up anything that come's close , and SWAY has to trespass in order to do their job...
Plus with thier face covered, the dog is going to be upset....

A Pitbull bite can injure you for life.....

its understandable but sad that they shot and killed the pitbull they are a fantastic breed but do what they are taught - they are a powerful animal, but can you explain the corgi? this is not a danger to an adult - next thing you hear about is swat taking out teacup poodles cuz they fear for their shoelaces.

someone was a bit triggerhappy

I know, I've had to shoot a pit bull before to protect myself. The corgi is the "eh?" part to this situation.

I watched the video, and am stunned by what I saw.

Karma can be a bitch. Hope those thugs get what they deserve.

Again, I'll give the benefit of the doubt. Only one person pulled the trigger. Still, shit rolls uphill and it's a leader's responsibility to mold the culture within a group.

I still haven't seen any follow-up on this.

UPDATE:
This guy is no gem: http://www.riehlworldview.com/carnivorous_conservative/2010/05/subject-of-missouri-swat-raid-was-no-angel.html

He had a history of combative arrests and convictions of coke distribution that made the cops opt for SWAT. I still MM-Quarterback shooting the dogs.
