Sucks being conservative

Recommended Posts

Evidently had a kick ass storm last night at home. Wind hail maybe a small tornado or two. Debris and damage all over the place. So, I've had to cut my trip short and go bond with the chainsaw to clean up. Plan-Get to work on my property opening access and dropping the damaged trees that may cause problems. Go help my neighbors do the same-Then go to my parents and do clean-up. Then I get to start clean-up at my place. It's be a hell of a lot easier to sit on my ass and wait for the government to send someone.

All that to do and you still have enough time to come on here and tell everyone how great you are. Congrats!

Fiscally conservative sucks too.

Instead of driving a brand new big RV or sports car from my huge house at the beach to a DZ and jumping all new gear. I either drive my old '96 RV van or my '97 car (both with over 100K) from my modest house in BFE NC and jump either the 7 year old rig or the 16 year old one.

All so I can save $$$ for retirement as well as not be in debt.

Is agreeing with that considered a personal attack?

Maybe you'll get lucky and invest your retirement funds in a well regulated business like Bernie Madoff ran.

Those pesky government regulators at the SEC really did their jobs as true conservatives would DREAM of, right? They made the appearance of regulating, while actually doing nothing at all. We all know that businesses will always act in the best interests of the citizens, so minimal to no government regulation and oversight is needed, right?
The ShrubCo MMS is another great example of the predictable outcome of conservative ideals. Minimal to no government regulation and NO enforcement of what little regulations existed. Total cooperation with the industry that is supposed to be tightly regulated. That has worked out to be totally bitchin, hasn't it?

You stupid fucks STILL don't get it, do you?

You swallow the bullshit from the corporate media, hook, line, and sinker. The practical outcome of the policies you support is totally predictable and obvious. Why are people so gullible so as to support that which is clearly NOT in their best interests? It is bizarre...

Seems we've seen a lot of that over the last year and a half, huh?

Not to mention most of the debt was incurred under Republican presidents who inherited stable scenarios and left total disaters. Yet the fiscal righties are teh brilliant ones who are beneficial for this country? :S

Minimal regulation is needed, but it needs to be enforced consistently and not be a conflict of interest.

What we had in both cases you mentioned was appearance of regulation, some cases of over overregulation, and some of just downright fraud.

Anytime you have someone telling someone not to do something but not enforcing it or if caught there are no real consequences you're going to have people not only disobeying but others getting a false sense of security.

Evidently your near-terminal case of BDS prevents you from remembering that the proposed plan was to let the INDIVIDUALS invest part of their withholding.

IOW - fail.

But, while we're speaking of getting 'grubby greedy mitts on Social Security', perhaps you can tell me who was in charge of Congress in 1993, when the taxable percentage of Social Security was increased?

TskTsk Tsk.... You seem to forget that the Shrub was just following the great VOODOODOO Economics of St Ronald( not that the Shrub ever came up with much on his own.. hence his stellar performance in business and the state of the economy he left the country in):S

I do Believe it was actually St Ronald who started the real raid on our retirement funds

Quote

Wanted to privatize retirement, but never had opportunity
Social Security was always more tar baby than Teflon for Reagan. He told me when he was governor of California that Barry Goldwater’s campaign had demonstrated that Republicans could not safely discuss the issue, but Reagan could not stop talking about it. I have no doubt that he shared the view that Social Security was a Ponzi scheme. He was intrigued with the idea of a voluntary plan that would have allowed workers to make their own investments. This idea would have undermined the system by depriving Social Security of the contributions of millions of the nation’s highest-paid workers. In 1976 he said that Social Security “could have made a provision for those who could do better on their own” and suggested that such recipients be allowed to leave the program upon showing that “they had made provisions for their non-earning years.” This declaration sent shudders through the ranks of Reagan’s political advisers, who knew his true feelings about Social Security.“
Source: The Role of a Lifetime, by Lou Cannon, p. 243 Jul 2, 1991

Suggested in 1975 to make social security voluntary
In 1975, Reagan suggested ways to make social security voluntary. The demography of Florida made that as dangerous a position as Reagan could adopt on domestic matters. [Based on that issue], Ford beat Reagan [in the Florida primary in 1976] with 53% of the general vote, but with a crushing 60% of voters over sixty-five.
Source: Reagan’s America, by Garry Wills, p. 329 Jul 2, 1987

Failed at restructuring system to avoid bankruptcy
Reagan’s speech before Congress-a call for 100% support of his Program for Economic Recovery-was interrupted by 14 bursts of applause and three standing ovations. 63 Democrats subsequently joined the solid Republican minority. Speaker Tip O’Neill [concluded] “the will of the people is to go along with the President.”
[After its passage], the Administration, overconfident, tried to restructure Social Security-which was clearly spending itself into bankruptcy-and discovered within days that “the will of the people“ did not extend so far as to mandate cutting the benefits of retirees.

Keynesian economic theory, codified by the social engineers of the 60s and 70s, called for high, progressive tax rates, manipulative government spending, and welfare-state ”entitlements“ centering around Social Security & Medicare/Medicaid. Reaganomics questioned the wisdom of all these tenets, with the exception of Social Security, by now clearly too much of an article of American faith even to be debated.

Here is a hint . . . it has MOSTLY to do with Self-Reliance.

See if you can figure out the rest of it.

Except for energy - they want that to be provided to them at a low, low price, with government subsidies going to their favorite type. And roads; they want government roads. And wars, and police. And fire departments. And veteran's hospitals. (socialism! gasp)

Every party wants their own government 'stuff.' Which is why we have a 13 trillion dollar deficit.
