TEHRAN, Iran – A senior Iranian prosecutor said Sunday that authorities will release a jailed American woman on $500,000 bail because of health problems, another sudden about-face by Iran in a case that has added to tension with the United States.

So now they want ransome, as her bail allows her to leave Iran. Can't we embargo those MFers?

You do realize that 500K is play money, even to a near bankrupt shit-hole country like Iran, right? And as a bail amount, it's not that uncommon around the world, right? Iran just seems to think the crime of being an American is about how the rest of us consider armed robbery or attempted murder.

As far as putting an embargo on them, you're the progressive left wong socialist. Take it up with the UN. Oh wait, that's right, the UN sanctions are in place and not worth a damn. They're also bordered by six or seven countries with seriously rugged terrain as well as the Caspian Sea and the Persian Gulf. I'm sure that would be an easy embargo to set up. Nah, no way the other Islamic countries in the UN would have a problem, or Russia, you know the close neighbor and longtime ally to to Iran. The one with veto power. No trouble getting the resolution passed.

Any more bright ideas?

Well it is play money considering they are one the leading oil producers, so maybe it's just a token then.

And you with the Nazi right would just engage in a protracted war, so what's your point?

Perhaps a fisccal embargo, esp with oil. I'm not sue of the pathways of oil supply, it may be that it's a collective production from OPEC and that it isn't possible to not buy from Iran and to buy from other ME oil-producing nations, but at the same time it's not as tho we are strangers with Saudi. I dunno, if we could embargo their oil that would obviously be a great start, but that may also be impossible.

Yea, perhaps. But we should attempt something, this is just BS.

See, it bothers you that I introduce a measure that says anything other than what you've prediagnosed ALL liberals as having love for ME countries, Russia and ALL Socialist countries. You're so compartmentalized that me lashing out at Iran rather than supporting them throws you off-kilter and you then have to resort to sarcasm over substance. I guess it's ALL liberals fault for not adopting your, "glass parking lot" model of diplomacy.

What do you want?
It's a country where the "elected" president speaks to a "higher father" and every one on the state run news networks thinks he did.
Come on! You want logic for these morons?

by embargo do you mean refusing any export from them ? wouldn't they have to export the woman after making bail to complete your assertion ?

Bail, deportation and embargos have nothing mutually in common. Embargos have to do with commerce as in import/export of products, this 500k is ransome.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/embargo

em·bar·go   /ɛmˈbɑrgoʊ/ Show Spelled [em-bahr-goh] Show IPA noun, plural -goes, verb, -goed, -go·ing.
–noun
1. an order of a government prohibiting the movement of merchant ships into or out of its ports.
2. an injunction from a government commerce agency to refuse freight for shipment, as in case of congestion or insufficient facilities.
3. any restriction imposed upon commerce by edict.
4. a restraint or hindrance; prohibition.

So if this woman is a freight shipment or a product then I guess so, but you have to be that abstract in order to make your point.

Obviously we need to get the world to disassociate them as much as possible if they want to beahve as they have been.

The hikers had the entire planet to wander, and they chose there...hmmm.:P

Sure, so deport them and refuse any further entry. I'm not convinced tehy were nabbed from the other side of the loose border anyway. If a person is hiking, is unarmed, has no intel-gathering equip and wanders in like that, they are just idiots, not spies. Besides, what's to spy on Iran that we don't already know?

The bail is going to be paid.. (and hopefully not from my tax dollars) and I doubt she'll return when they call her back for trial. The only way I see her going back to face trial is if her friends are still there and they basically use them to lure her back.

My question is what moronic 'experienced' hikers even get that close to a country like Iran knowing what they're capable of.

A $500,000 lesson in stupidity may just be what they need..

So no address of the girl's ransome NOT being a product of a country? You do understand what an embargo is, right?

do you remember your definition number 4 ?
if bail is ransom iran would import it
if the bailee is exchanged for the ransom , that would be the export
an embargo would interfere with that
aside from this we might have to agree to disagree
could you let me know if this moves me up your postal list
i don't have one !

Yea, I agree with all that. At the same time, look at all the wuffos who say the same thing about skydivers in the light of fatalities.

So her bail is a restraint or hinderance of Iran's operation? The idea behind this definition (the way you're applying it) isn't that they are restraining us, the idea is that if we apply an embargo against them, we apply a restraint against them; you are infering they are restraining us = applying an abstract embargo upon us.

Your definitions are even more abstract than Mike's.

When you find yourself being abstract to make a point, apply the idea to the court of common sense: I'm saying we should avoid doing commerce with them, you say them ransoming a hostage is a form of embargo since teh hostage is restrained - that makes no sense at all, you're trying to apply a singualr political incident and making it a routine product. I realize you have no argument, but a held hostage isn't a product that is embargoed, it could be the reason we embargo them.

Right, and practically their entire economy depends on oil exports, and anytime oil prices drop or opec plays with outputs, they run short of cash.

OK, go ahead and point out where I've supported invading Iran. Go ahead. We'll wait. But you'll find evidence of Rhys' 9/11 theories before you find me saying the US should invade Iran.

There's hope for you yet. That was modest, you expored possible options, and admitted you don't know. I happen to agree but share your concerns about OPEC working together, and the fact that other countries DO need teh oil regardless of who drills, pumps, and ships it. I don't think the US takes any Iranian oil as it is. The demand just gets shifted around. And I don't see any likely scenarios where Russia wouldn't buy the oil to support their "ally."

Not at all, but you go ahead and keep on ranting. You're curing me of that temporary respect I was developing for you, and showing that you STILL can't respond to what people actually ahve to say. I mean YOU'RE the one pgieon-holing me because you are anticiapting and addressing things I've never said and will never say.

FYI: while I have made "glass parking lot" comments while fed up with the middle east, I've never endorsed actually following through on it.

It's not an opinion that ransome for this girl is not considered an embargo. It may be a reason to get us to have NATO embargo them, but this girl is not an exorted product subject to embargo - just insane to think that.
