Can this be viewed as anything but bigotry. Yes right wingers again.

I am talking about the movement to Boycott Campbell soup because they will be offering “Halal” Soups soon in their line of products.

This is bigotry:

I agree. And I have no intention of boycotting Campbell for introducing a halal line.

I once got jumped for being white in the wrong part of town... How was that not racist? And I very much doubt they were right wingers.

True.

But I have to say as a Muslim most of what I see (including people on Dz.com) that can be qualified as racists is from people who claim to be republican or tea party. At least when it comes to Muslims.

Its odd because they keep on denying it. Its as if they make a statement or an action that’s is obviously motivated on hate, and then they try to find reasons if there are any. If they cant find reasons they make them up.

Apparently Pam Geller (the lady responsible for the "Ground Zero" mosque uproar) is leading the charge on this one. Maybe she's bored with the mosque issue.

While right wingers do seem to have cornered the market on anti-Muslim bigotry lately, the left wing has no shortage of bigots either. Some left wingers think that blacks (for example) cannot succeed without strong (and unequal) support because they're inherently inferior. Others dislike Christians as strongly as some right wingers dislike Muslims.

Political orientation is no defense against bigotry.

Thanks for the link.

However I don’t think I left any important points out.

It’s a very simple issue. A company is expanding their product line to meet the needs of their customer or to attract new ones. But because it is for Muslims Some people have an issue with it.

Really stupid and obviously motivated by racism.

However I would not be surprised to see people defend the Boycott I mean we had plenty of people here who believed the constitution applies to all except Muslims when it comes to freedom of religion.

Any thing is possible, we have enough of a supply of retarded people.:S

I checked the FB page there is over 3000 likes. I bet most of them would not think of themselves as Bigots.

You forgot: "This is bigotry, and I will buy more Campbell's soup to piss off the boycotters."

I did forget that. Hmm see if i can edit.

Nope can not edit the options on poll, and it makes sense why you shouldn't be able to.

Oh and i am buying Campbell and i usally don't

"Is it true that not all right wingers are racists, but all racists are right wingers."

Not true at all -- plenty of racists on the left. White gentrifiers from the midwest settling in Brooklyn in recent years come to mind, for starters.

Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

A company is expanding their product line

Actually, it's not even that.

They are simply making (some) of their already existing products in a way that can let them get a Halal certification. Pretty much in the same way a majority of products now on shelves in North America are Kosher (well, except for bacon, bacon wrapped scallops, and bacon chocolate, but you get my drift lol)

WHAT? There are products out there made specifically for the people who are taking over America? Let me know who they are so I can boycott them!

Bill Normally I would agree with you, and I believe you are factually right.
However what’s frightening for me is that the republican leadership is becoming more and more radicalized.

I understand they like the energy and enthusiasm that some of these groups add to their tent but I think the motivation behind it should cause them some concern that i have yet to see them voice.

Actually, you failed to provide any information at all. You say someone out there is boycotting. We're to take your word for it on the analysis, apparently. So yeah, I'm going to vote against you just to spite you.

It certainly sounds like a case of people using anti Islamic beliefs. Bit funny too - Halal, like Kosher, is a nice scam by the certifiers, with varying levels of follow through in actual inspection.

so what with the boycotters do anyway? Buy PROGRESSIVE? (I don't think so)

It is about time an american company decided to keep the money here, around here (southern Ca.) all the Muslims shop at Muslim owned stores, selling products from the far east, (money leaving the country)

Good on them...(BTW for the bigoted racist OP, and the clones that agree with theem, I am a right winger)

You are welcome for the link

As for what is obvious and motivated? Well, that is your opinion (along with billvon it seems)

You can apply the labels for all the good it does. It
just shows the ugliness of being PC IMO

So are the people who support and started this movement as Wendy stated its started by the same woman who made all the noise about the mosque that is near ground zero. That sure had a lot of support by right wingers all over the place including here on dz.com as well.

By the way you can say your not a bigot or racists I am sure most of the people supporting this boycott would say the same.

Not a bad plan. I assume you'll give up your motorcycles; not very many are manufactured here in Southern California. You could replace them with a California Custom Cycles product.

>all the Muslims shop at Muslim owned stores,

Which are local. If you want to keep the money here, best shop there rather than at Wal-Mart.

Let me reverse this a little bit. The following is one of you poll choices

Quote

Is it true that not all right wingers are racists, but all racists are right wingers.

How would you classify the person who would make this statement?

The statment is logically incorrect, As is the case whenever you use absolutes.

However

When I make it personal as in what I have experienced first hand, I have yet to have a self proclaimed Liberal support or start any of these movements that too ME seem like are only motivated by Islamophobia.

And at the same time all of these recent movements have been started and supported by people who consider and call them selves right winger and republicans.

I have also witnessed people on here who twist and turn to make it seem as if there is some other motivation other then race/religion that I am claming as THE motivation. Those people are on the right.

So I answered your question. Care to answer mine instead of ignoring it?

What is the motivation for this boycott?

And do you support it?

Well, I personally find your quoted statement extremely bigoted. But in the end I really dont care if you care to say it or not. And to label you a bigot because of that statement would only hinder conversation IMO not help it

So, I find using the race card or bigot label as being a PC tactic to shut up the other side. Why else would some one feel compeled to do that? Does it help the conversation or just make one feel better?

I do not think the place should be built near ground zero. They have the right to build it but, it is the right thing to do. Am I racists? After all I am just considering the sensitivites of other who experienced that mess.

At any rate, you have been able to rationalize your postion on this topic as well as do the same for you poll question

As for the soup thingy? Could be the people are just ignorant and I really dont care to look into it any further. Boycotts are a waste of time by anybody
