Do you know how much an average teacher makes in NYC school district? Last I saw it was around 42K, which is not a lot of money. I was making more than that first year out of college and that was close to 10 years ago. BFD if they have health insurance that covers cosmetic surgery. If we can't give them a decent salary, might as well give them excellent benefits. The DOD budget accounts for 4.3% of our GDP. I'm sure there are a lot of programs that we don't need, but the right-wing gets all pissed when we even mention that we need to cut their budget. I say we start there.

42k average? I know about 30-50 million people that would love to make 40-50k for only working 9 months a year.

Have they went to college and didcated themselves to teaching our children?

Nope, didn;t think so....when a Teacher actaully does their job, (some don't) they deserve a GOOD paycheck, and binifits...I want the Best teaching children, and being paid to do so!

(This statement coming from a dropout) I've seen what lack of education cost me!

>entitlements are 55% of budget !

Yes, they are. Would you cut veteran's hospitals? Or is that one of your "sacred cow" entitlements?

why do people always bring out the most important needs to cut, instead we should look at the least important. Lets start with putting congress on social security and medicare, that will fix those programs quick. then make all federal employees take the same retirement programs that the similar job in the private sector has.

People living generation after generation on th etax payers sweat are the "most Important"? you GOT to be kidding me!

BUT, I do like the rest of your idea...

How much would be saved (actual dollar amount) by cutting "welfare", and define exactly which programs you consider welfare (for example, is Social Security "welfare" in your opinion?)

Man, you should make professors and PHD's bad. Did it ever ocurred you to request if people go on welfare, they got to become productive instead of throwing money at them through generations? Is that too much to ask? Of course exceptions can be made, those with medical, physical disadvantage, but how long do we have to maintain a woman that keeps giving birth to multiple fathers, using drugs, allowing the boyfriend to sell drugs in their paid for place of abode, while they go in brand new cars, wearing gold, etc that you see sometimes around on the 1st of every month. Did it ever occurred you that sometimes there is government waste?

So much for you complaining about GWB wastes, not a single peep now...

So you whine a lot, but you have no clue how much would be saved. That's good to know.

Starting, bachelor's degree, no teaching experience $45530
Starting, master's degree, no teaching experience $51425
10 years, $64k to $76k, depending on qualifications (education and cerification).
Current maximum just over $100k

Retirement plan, which is something not that many professionals outside the public sector get any more.

My stepdaughter makes $35k as a public school teacher in the Chicago suburbs. She has a master's degree. I don't know where these mythical $100k average government employees are to be found.

Everyone that works hard deserves a good paycheck, but teachers only work 9 months a year, leaving them with thew ability to work in the summer and make extra money, teachers in illinois average over 50k a year to start. all have the top benifits. Bottom line is 30-40 million people (most likely alot more) make less and have to work 12 months.

What you have proposed is peanuts and would make an insignificant difference to the deficit.

Give us some real proposals with hard numbers attached.

your step daughter is getting robbed then, the average starting teacher pay in illinois is 50k. just had this discussion 2 weeks ago with some other people and they were complaining about 50-60k a year to start.

>read my posts upthread.

I did. You suggested changing FERS (the federal employee retirement system) into the "same retirement programs that the similar job in the private sector has."

Most private sector jobs have savings programs (like 401k's) where you can pay into a fund and get it at the end of your employment or at retirement.

FERS is a program where you pay into a fund and get it at the end of your employment or retirement.

So it already is similar.

But let's give you the benefit of the doubt and just end it, period - force all government employees to get their own 401k's. Billions in expenditures would end, and billions in income (those contributions they used to make to FERS) would also end.

In 2010, that income was $98 billion. In 2010, they will pay out $70 billion in benefits. So ending both of those will COST the government $28 billion.

So so far your proposals would result in increasing debt.

What's your next plan?

So what's that got to do with the price of tea in China?

So tens of millions get paid less than teachers: they ain't teachers. Millions get paid a lot more than teachers: they ain't teachers either.

Why should teachers get paid according to the value of jobs other people do?

So, I guess your estoic arian virtues just shine in your post. I told you a few times ago, that if you call me juanito, is offensive, maybe when I was 14 that would have been fine.

I don't care if you have a fetish with me or not but it is clear that somewhere in your mind you honestly believe you have superb and flawless english writing skills but american can be as well writen in lower case letters.

Was it really necessary that you posted all that insult before getting to your question of where do I see hate in jakees's (or whatever his nick is) ?

Could you pretty please with sugar on the top refrain, abstain, stop, desist on addressing me as juanito? I understand you don't have the spanish language skills I have, but really, seriously, please do.

PS I have been voting in the US since 04. Get new material so you can keep your thinly veiled insults updated.

Let me repeat:

....where the hell did you find any "hatred for ....... " in Jakees post?

Juane, I'm not Aryan. :P

>Another huge stretch, the Military has EARNED what they get....

?? Are you projecting? I didn't say they didn't earn it. I said it was an entitlement program.

Entitlement programs are programs where access to benefits is guaranteed by law. Veteran's health benefits are one example of this.

You're probably using the conservative definition of "entitlement program" which is "any program that gives money to people who I don't like." And while terms to fit your own political bias can be fun, it also leads to errors like the one you made above.

Look at it this way.

Are you entitled to your paycheck and benefits that you earn every year?

What if you didn't work, are you still entitled to your paycheck?

>Look at it this way.

Veteran's benefits are entitlement programs. Look it up; it's in the US budget.

If you find yourself having to redefine words to make your point, your point may not be all that strong to begin with.

So what would you cut?
