CanuckInUSA 0 #27 November 5, 2010 You know maybe $200 million/day is a lie, but nobody is giving the Americans the exact price tag of this visit. As long as the Obama administration continues to hide the actual cost of this trip, the rumors will persist. You can't have it both ways. You can't think of Obama as the Messiah giving him a blank check to run around spending as he pleases without people sitting up and questioning how much money he is spending. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

My issue with the scrutiny of these types of expenses is that it rings extremely hollow. The same people who want to run through this itinerary with a fine toothed comb never questioned the $2 billion per week that we were throwing at Iraq or any of the other expenditures of the last decade. For example, when film and documentation was presented to a Congressional committee which showed abuse of a cost-plus contract through the bulldozing of new computers and the blowing up of a tanker truck because it had a flat tire, the response from a Rep. of Georgia was "what do you have against profit?" Suddenly, as of January 2009, the right is concerned with wasteful spending and wants to attack every nickel spent on a Democratic politician's activities. I'm all for cutting waste too but let's not leave it to partisan pettiness. Like Anderson Cooper said, there's plenty of real crap to be pissed off about. No need to make shit up. wmw999 2,452 #29 November 5, 2010 Because the exact cost is open to debate. Do you count the cost of soldiers detailed to protect the President? They were going to be paid anyway. Probably depends on whether you agree or disagree with him. Etc. Wendy P.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. wmw999 2,452 #36 November 5, 2010 Ya know, I think I'd rather have the president on a trip somewhere, trying to drum up some business, than investing 2 billion into a week of war. Even if the trip cost 2 billion, which it doesn't. Much more of a return. Doesn't feel as badass, but badassness is overrated. Wendy P. wmw999 2,452 #40 November 5, 2010 Well, we disagree on whether the president traveling overseas to drum up business is a waste of money. I see it as part of his job. You might not. champu 1 #47 November 6, 2010 QuoteHow??? they still refuse to say how much. Did you really care until someone made up an outrageous number? There are plenty of published budgets and budgets available via FOIA requests that include trivial crap not worth getting worked up about. Some budgets include things that really should get more public attention but this is more than likely not one of them. I'm going to have to agree with idrankwhat on this one.
