What the camera crew saw that made them think it was a missile is nothing more than an optical illusion created by the angle they were viewing it from, according to Contrail Science, a blog that is dedicated to busting myths about contrails. In a detailed explanation, the blog says the alleged "missile" is likely America West Airlines Flight 808 from Hawaii to Phoenix.

Sounds like an airplane to me.

I watched the videos...that is no airplane...how many airplanes have a single glowing red sorce of their contral?

I see the glowing red and think it looks like the sun being reflected. I've seen rockets launch and the ones I've seen, there was no mistaking the flame.

Ever see an airplane reflect sunlight?

Besides which, how fast does a missile fly? The camera in the helicopter said they tracked it for 10 minutes. That must be the slowest flying missile ever.

>this is west coast folks, in the PM , how does an aircraft reflect the sun that

The wings of an airplane are big and flat and are cocked upwards at a slight angle (dihedral.) If the sun is close to getting beneath the airplane (i.e. is very low on the horizon) and someone is far away in the other direction you'll often see the reflection from the bottom of the wing.

Airplanes that reflect the sun often look red right around sunset.

Hawaii is 2390 miles from California.

Yeah... I'm sure you could see an airplane contrail from 2400 miles away.... :S:S

ETA: The aircraft was moving AWAY from the California coast.

>Hawaii is 2390 miles from California.

And Phoenix is on the other side of California. You have to fly over California to get from Hawaii to Phoenix.

>ETA: The aircraft was moving AWAY from the California coast.

?? The video shows a contrail extending from lower left of the frame to upper right of the frame. If the camera was pointed west and slightly upwards, that indicates a path from west to east. If it was moving away from the coast it would seem like it was going down.

Look at the video/pics... there is sun glare only on the right side of the contrail. If the aircraft was flying straight west to east at that atitude the bottom of the contrail would be reflected with sun glare, not just the right side. This gives the impression that the aircraft is actually flying at a more vertical angle, or certainly not directional from W to E.

I don't know. The "red light" isn't constant like it would be from a missile. It’s there and then gone like a reflection on a moving surface.

Picture attached below. Both sides of the contrail are lit up.

I'm not convinced by that pic, and the video (obviously with thousands of more frames) doesn't have that same appearance.

If I was there and saw it flying over head from W to E I would also be convinced it is a comercial plane flying as stated... It just doesn't look that way in the video.

OMG...I had to explain to my son why I was laughing, and he laughed out loud too...

TOTALLY Impossible...go play with a mirror, and get it to reflect backwards,

Especially at a constant, like that clip shows, For a "second" yeah...I could believe...that thing glows for the whole video, changing angle of attack of light constantly....

Daaaaayum Bill, I thought you were not only smart, but well educated...I am disapointed! (Is this my one warning?)B|

>TOTALLY Impossible...go play with a mirror, and get it to reflect backwards.

Not impossible at all. A mirror can reflect at any angle except 0 degrees. (And since the sun was not directly behind it, it wasn't trying to reflect light at 0 degrees.)

>Especially at a constant, like that clip shows, For a "second" yeah...I
>could believe...that thing glows for the whole video

Then you may have seen a different video. The entire first half of the video shows no glow at all. See screen captures below.

ROFL...your cracking me up...I always thought you were much more educated than I am ....Go figure..[:/]

That "angle" might work for maybe....4 seconds.....the glow never stopped....

Why do you think that?

"Aircraft climbing, Moving away, changing angle by the second, the sun"in front of it" as it climbs...there may be a "few seconds" there will be a reflection, "close" tto the sorce of the contrail, yet, this contrail stays lit, from 10 degrees above horizon, up to over 50 degrees above...the only way to do that(plus it is ALWAYS at the tip of the contrail) is to change angle of the reflective surface!

>"Aircraft climbing, Moving away, changing angle by the second" . . .

How fast would the angle change if the aircraft were 200 miles away and moving almost directly towards you? Let's say you saw the glow for 20 seconds and the plane was moving at 500mph, starting at 10 degrees above the horizon. How much would the angle have changed in that time?

>Moving away, changing angle by the second, the sun"in front of it" as it
>climbs...

The sun was behind it.

>from 10 degrees above horizon, up to over 50 degrees above . . .

Uh, the video was taken from a helicopter. You can't see 50 degrees above you without looking through the rotor - and there was no rotor visible in those pictures.

I really do not have definative opiono on this contrail.

But one thing bugs me about this whole thing.

if it was simply an aircraft, it would have to have a transponder on that flight path, and we would all have been informed that immediately with details such as the flight path, destination, origin, flight number etc.

the comments from the pentagon saying thay have no idea what it is created this debarcle, if it was a plane they simply would have said so.

I can't really be fucked with this debate (for now) as nothing has really eventuated from it. But if indeed it was a plane, with all the media attention it has gotten and the plethora of debates going on in forums internationally, the flight number, destination, origin aircraft type etc etc would have come to light right now.

Once again assumtions and guesswork are used to make a conclusion when the information should be availabale for anyone to cross check.

If you can conclusively say it was a plane, you should be able to conclude/prove what it was. If it was not a commerical and therefor scheduled flight then it is something else, if it did not have a transponder and was unexpected, yes it should be a worry.

The information I have available to me would 'suggest' it was an excercise of the US military. But I am not willing to conclude that.

What, you mean we might have found out that it was, oh I don't know, America West Airlines Flight 808 from Hawaii to Phoenix? You're right, We would have heard that by now.

Imagine a telephone conversation, if you will:

Reporter: So what's with this missile launch near cali?

Pentagon guy: Missile launch? We don't know anything about a missile launch.

Imagine that reporter back on TV:

Reporter: The Pentagon doesn't know what the source of this mystery missile was...

Incompetence/ laziness trumps conspiracy everytime. And fer chrissakes, it's a fucking plane.

The only people making noise about this is the media and crackpot websites. There is no military interest I can tell from any traffic or conversation. We're laughing here.

I know! Right?!
It reminds me of those people who thought the world was round. Everybody laughed at them. I mean come on, look at the horizon it’s obviously flat! Bunch of doofuses went and sailed right off the edge of the earth.

I bet Sasquatch flew that rocket over to the Loch Ness and he and the monster are just sitting around laughing at all those “Plane People”.
