champu 1 #101 November 14, 2010 QuoteThe camera in the helicopter said they tracked it for 10 minutes. That must be the slowest flying missile ever. Ballistic missiles and space launch vehicles are generally out of the atmosphere within a couple minutes and over the horizon (or at least at too low an elevation angle to see) after a few more. jakee 1,499 #104 November 14, 2010 QuoteHow do you explain it? How do you explain "No Airplane" has ever left a contral of that type, especially climbing at such a high rate? It's not fucking climbing! QuoteAs pointed out before, ANY aircraft capabale of that contral, would have had a transponder, and would be known by now... It is known. It's been named in this thread. (The link I posted earlier is from a sitcom called Father Ted. It involves Father ted Trying to explain perspective to Father Dougall - that while the toy cows inside their caravan are small, the cows in the next field are far away. "These cows are small, those cows are far away. Small, far way..." In this analogy, you are Father Dougall.)Do you want to have an ideagasm?
jakee 1,499 #105 November 14, 2010 QuoteIn the video it appears to be flying away from the chopper off the Cali coast not toward it. No, it doesn't. It only looks like it's flying away from the coast if you assume it's a mostly vertical rocket launch, which it isn't. If you don't assume this, it looks like it is doing exactly what it is doing, which is flying inland at a constant altitude.Do you want to have an ideagasm? lawrocket 3 #107 November 14, 2010 QuoteQuoteSkyrider, How do you answer Lawrocket's point that the contrail should be getting brighter if the source is gaining altitude and climbing to where the sun still appears well above the horizon? If anything, the contrail is darker close to the source, consistent with the source flying level in a direction opposite to the movement of the terminator (the boundary between day and night). Don How do you explain it? How do you explain "No Airplane" has ever left a contral of that type, especially climbing at such a high rate? You are avoiding the answer! As a matter of physics, it was not climbing at a rate sufficient enough to even stay in the sunlight! Or, if it was climibing at a high rate, then it HAD to be moving east at great speed to stay in front of the terminator. The video shows pretty conclusively it wasn't. Airplanes DO leave contrails just like it. Consider a contrail. Now, consider it being back lighted at dusk. Now, consider the source flying at you - a much different effect than looking straight up at it. Quote One expliantion, depending on camera used, is simply a hobbist launching a rocket from a private boat... Then it would be a low-flying, subsonic rocket. A one-stage rocket. Sorry - nothing "hobbyist" can support that. They can do some incredible things, but this isn't one of them. This is much more like a cruise missile if not an aircraft. My wife is hotter than your wife.

airtwardo 7 #111 November 15, 2010 I use to see those kind of contrails years ago when I lived in San Diego...usually at sunset. The buzz wuz, they were atmospheric testing rockets of some type that were spraying some traceable element in the exhaust that was being studied for wind something or other. Didn't really make any sense to me... but ya see a lotta weird stuff at the beach around sunset! ...early morning sunrise runs were sometimes accompanied by the rapid high altitude 'pop pop pop' of a ram jet...like the non existent Aurora uses! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~

Because it's so easy to see that it is a contrail...I see these all the time over here from planes comming from Canada over Lake Huron...I say WOW, That's cool! It looks like a space shuttle, but common sense tells me that its only a plane....then I forget about it, then my miserable life continues....ok...sorry...my life isn't that miserable....I'm just hoping that one day someone will understand my metaphors without thinking I'm a nutcase.Your secrets are the true reflection of who you really are... Lukasz_Se 2 #117 November 15, 2010 OMG, are there still people in USA that really think it was a missile? Funny thing is that this story was so dumb that not many tv stations in Europe decided to even bother commenting on it. All it took was like 15 min on google.com to find pretty convincing prof that it was only an air plane. First, for people saying that air plane contrails never look like that, well, they didn't when I was a kid but in last few years they appear on the sky in Sweden more and more often. Second, flights 808 path seems to match really well with what we see on the movie. Not only that, 2 days after the accident I have seen some pictures somewhere from same spot in california and guess what, exactly 48h after that missile launch you could see very similar contrail in exactly the same spot. So people, stop making your life more interesting than they actually are and stop finding reasons to believe it was a missleYou better think for a second why airplane contrails look like that. You might be laughing at conspiracy theories but I find it weird that back in the days I have never seen airplanes leave such long lasting contrails. http://flightaware.com/live/flight/AWE808 I dont know if someone posted this before http://uncinus.wordpress.com/2010/11/09/4/ Another good link Cheers

champu 1 #120 November 15, 2010 QuoteOMG, are there still people in USA that really think it was a missile? *shrugs* Last year when there actually was a missile launched near Norway that produced a strange visual effect and officials everywhere said, "Uh yeah... it was a missile." there were people who wouldn't believe that. /edited to add: [one year from now] Reporter: "Strange mystery airplane spotted in South America!" The internet: "Mystery airplane pretty obviously photographer's finger in front of the lens." Theorists: "Fingers in front of lenses can't possibly move like that! It must have been some mundane aircraft flying by but they don't want us to know!" The internet: "Oh, shut up."
