Gun-Packing Santa Draws Fire

A painted plywood cut-out of Santa with a cowboy hat and a gun on his belt is causing quite a stir in Turlock.

”I tried to get the image out of my head all day long and I could not, because Santa is made for love, bringing families together, not carrying weapons,” Monica Sliva said.

The Santa is one of many displays that line Tracy’s Christmas Tree Lot on Monte Vista Avenue.

Sliva confronted the workers at the tree lot to ask them to take the gun-toting Santa display down because she said it sends the wrong message to children.

“It portrays to the kids that it’s OK for Santa to be carrying a gun and therefore it’s OK for them to be carrying a gun,” Sliva said...

You know what? Santa is also grossly overweight, which sets a bad example for kids, who should be eating healthy and maintaining proper physical fitness. Therefore, the Santas of the world shouldn't be allowed to be portrayed as a fat man, but rather, the man in the red suit should be skinny. Next, what about his reindeer? It's animal abuse to lash those wild animals together and treat them like beasts of burden, pulling a sleigh around all night at breakneck speeds. Santa's reindeer should be set free to munch grass peacefully in meadows full of wild flowers. And finally - the elves. They're captive in a gosh-forsaken frozen landscape, and forced to perform tedious manual labor in an ill-equipped factory. Free the elves! I'm offended by all these things. I demand that Santa displays commence immediately to display Santa as a skinny guy who delivers mass quantities of machine-produced goods in a solar-powered automobile. There, that should solve this problem of depictions of an evil Santa!

Yet another overly sinsitive asshole...I hope she doesn't see the Mirage ad!:S

How much you want to bet she lets her kids play violent video games, where the objective is to kill people with realistic guns and realistic blood spatter.

or has "no clue" what is in the games she buys for her kids!

Have you heard that Christmas may be cancelled at our nation's capital, this year. Yes, the problem revolves around their Nativity scene. Apparently they can't find three wise men to play that part. They are still looking for a virgin. The good news is that there are no shortage of asses.;)

People seem to be searching for things to be offended by these days. In San Francisco, Macy's fired their Santa of 20 years because he told a very mild off-color joke to some adults ... who complained.

Santa got the last laugh though, he's now making twice as much working at a local bar. :)

I wonder how many people would have a different reaction to a baby jesus with a gun.

I know you're trolling for an anti-gun angle here, but I'm sure everyone can see the difference between a baby, and a full-grown cowboy, when it comes to gun possession. So you really don't have any point.

or possibly derailing the whole thread with an anti jesus influx of the same old predictable thread drift

or...possibly.....just an anti baby angle.
no one ever thinks of the children

Well since you have to be old enough to handle a weapon... I think giving baby jesus a weapon is a bad idea....

Now, give 30 year old jesus a gun and maybe he would not have been put up on that cross!!!!

Only young kids believe in santa. Cowboy santa with guns, funny image for adults, very powerful image for young kids who believe.

People of all ages believe in baby jesus. Baby jesus with gun, very powerful image for all who believe in baby jesus.

Both are well recognizable images, almost the world round. Most will also recognize that for some it is not just santa and just a baby.

As for gun possession, I think todlers should have them. There would be far less fights over the sharing of toys in JK.

Once Again..."Duh" this is "Texas" , it is "Cowboy" Country....Even them poor ignorant impressionable little kids know it is Cowboy Country..., Matter of fact, they probably wouldn;t give a second thought to Jesus with a gun, other than they (unlike the lib in the OP), can think well enough to know, there were no guns back then , so it must be fake!
